Do you really know the Holy Spirit? And what does the answer mean for your faith? In The Familiar Stranger, Tyler Staton draws on Scripture, tradition, and spiritual practices to help you step into a genuine relationship with the Holy Spirit and discover a fully alive spirituality. For a generation searching desperately for an experiential spirituality, there's good news: the Holy Spirit's indwelling presence to empower and transform is freely available. Yet, confusion and unfamiliarity surround the Holy Spirit, leading too many Christians either to sideline him or misunderstand what he means for their spiritual lives. In The Familiar Stranger, Staton reintroduces this oft-neglected person of the Trinity, tracing the story of the Holy Spirit as it unfolds throughout the Bible, and inviting believers to close the gap between what Scripture reveals about the Holy Spirit and their lived experience. Along the way, readers will:- dig into key biblical images and metaphors that reveal the Holy Spirit's nature, roles, and personality;- learn about common misperceptions that keep believers and churches from experiencing the fullness of the Holy Spirit's power and presence;- discover how the Spirit brings discernment and access to miraculous power to partner with God in the work he's doing in the world;- reckon with the indispensable role of spiritual experience for walking with God; andunderstand how both Word and Spirit work together to draw people into a vibrant, intimate knowledge of God.The Familiar Stranger will challenge, inform, and encourage believers from every background to become more deeply acquainted with the Person and work of the Holy Spirit - and experience his transformative, life-giving power in their lives.

The second volume cataloguing the Danish artist's iconic brick sculptures. Beginning in 1966, Per Kirkeby created more than 150 brick sculptures throughout his lifetime. Initially, Kirkeby was drawn to the essential qualities of bricks as a unit of architectural design and a symbol of human civilization - being the same size as the human hand. While Kirkeby was undoubtedly alluding to the simplicity and order of Minimalism at the time, the Danish artist was also looking beyond aesthetic purity to the pictorial and narrative possibilities of bricks. Although Kirkeby is revered for his painting, his brick sculptures represent his most instantly recognisable work, in a material so familiar that it is almost invisible. At once ornamental, functional, architectural and purposeless, Kirkeby's brick sculptures have become an iconic symbol of Danish modern art. This is the second volume of a three-volume catalogue raisonné on the brick works, together offering a comprehensive overview of his output from 1966 until his death in 2018. This volume concentrates on Kirkeby's unrealised brick sculptures, from 1983 to 2017. From smaller installations for exhibitions to private commissions and city planning projects, none of these sculptures were ever realised at their proposed site, and are presented to the public for the first time in this book. Contributions from the likes of Hans Ulrich Obrist and Robert Storr provide further context to these important works.

In the tumultuous saga of the Napoleonic Wars, one critical narrative has remained notably absent: a comprehensive medical history. This meticulously researched new volume from Martin R. Howard fills this gap in the literature. From the blood-stained fields of battle to the makeshift hospitals overflowing with sick and wounded soldiers, every aspect of medical care is vividly portrayed. Readers are immersed in the chaos of battlefield triage, groundbreaking surgical procedures, and the epidemics of disease. Not just mere historical documentation, this work is a gripping testament to human resilience. Through the eyes of those who lived it, the pages pulsate with the drama and urgency of the era, offering a riveting narrative that is both informative and compelling. The book draws on accounts from Europe, North America, The West Indies, Egypt, and India to give a truly global picture of the medical landscape of the time. The often-overlooked medical legacy of the Napoleonic Wars is given due recognition.

In this highly anticipated book, the bestselling author of Do Hard Things--"one of the giants of modern thinking about high performance" (Alex Hutchinson)--flips the script on the pursuit of excellence, shifting our thinking from high-stress survival mode to fulfillment-oriented thriving mode to creates sustainable success at the highest level. Striving is in our nature. We all want to perform at our best when it matters most. But in today's world, many of us feel lost, isolated, and overwhelmed. We're paralyzed by fear of failure and crippled by insecurities. We know we're capable of more, yet no matter how hard we try, we feel stuck. We've been sold the wrong path to success.Renowned performance scientist and bestselling author Steve Magness reveals a new path to sustainable success. In Win the Inside Game, Magness argues that excellence and fulfillment are not mutually exclusive; we can and should seek both. When we measure our worth by our achievements, cement our identities to our careers, and sacrifice our well-being in the pursuit of external validation, it backfires. We default to survival mode, protecting and defending ourselves instead of being free to fulfill our potential. In this, his most personal book yet, Magness draws on his vast wealth of experience as an Olympic coach and whistleblower, highly popular consultant, and premier expert on performance, as well as scientific findings, interviews, and case studies, to provide a three-part framework to help us learn to focus on what really matters and achieve success.Be--Clarity on Who You AreDo--Clarity in Your PursuitsBelong--Clarity on Where and How You Fit InRedefining the trend carved by bestsellers such as Be Useful, Range, and Hidden Potential, Win the Inside Game seeks not only excellence but inner growth. In realigning our focus from something externally motivated and fear-based to internally motivated and driven by personal conviction, Magness provides the tools for us to free ourselves up to perform and ultimately achieve a fuller sense of self and purpose.

**PRE-ORDER: The gripping, groundbreaking historical true crime from the award-winning #1 Sunday Times bestselling author of THE FIVE**This is the story of a murder, not a murderer ... Throughout the 20th century, the infamous 'Crippen murder' was told in such a way as to cast doubt on Crippen's guilt and to victim-blame his wife Cora, a musichall actress, for her own murder. It also astonishingly depicted Crippen's younger mistress Ethel as innocent of any involvement in the killing of her love rival. Not so, says Rubenhold. In fact, Ethel got away with murder, and the same Edwardian beliefs about women that demonised his wife also blinded society to Ethel's guilt. By telling the story through the women's eyes, we see clearly who this lying, deceitful, misogynistic criminal doctor was. He was not 'the mild-mannered murderer' as everyone from Raymond Chandler to Dorothy Sayers has suggested, but a dead-eyed, unrepentant killer. STORY OF A MURDER is a grand experiment in subverting a famous history. With a galloping narrative at its centre, it explores the late Victorian and Edwardian era, class aspiration, the transatlantic world and the incredible period of social revolution for women.
