Navigating the Shock of Parenthood, pulls together insights from hundreds of experienced parents. It organizes expert advice, and reveals the social and historical sources of some of today's most anxiety provoking parenting imperatives. It also helps with a range of nitty gritty parenting challenges. Such as, projectile pooping (Real!). Dolphin training for toddlers. (Useful!) Or, how do I find community? What do I do when I find myself channeling the parent I never wanted to emulate? A little insight and perspective will help you steer a course through the strange new waters of parenthood. With these tools you'll learn to guide your family boat in a direction of your choosing rather than being swept along by outside forces. Navigating the Shock of Parenthood will help you laugh, build your village, raise your kids with joy, make decisions with insight, and work for the world you want your children to inherit. If you're struggling with new parenthood, you will find endless books on breastfeeding or potty training. However, there is almost nothing on the emotional and psychological challenges we face when we transition from adulthood to parenthood. Why are the joys of parenthood so heavily mixed with fear and angst? Where did "concerted cultivation," come from and do you really need to buy into it? What is "the race to nowhere," and how is it driving parents and children to anxiety. What has happened to modern American kindergarten, and is it a good thing? Frankly, most parenting books also leave out many of the really difficult day to day challenges that parents struggle with. How do you to talk with young children about death? How do you manage problem relatives when kids and partners are in the picture? How do you parent a child who seems so different from yourself? How do you negotiate new life roles with your partner when society is pushing you heavily toward old stereotypes. The challenges of today's parenthood are real, and the first years are often so hard. We all need some help. Navigating the Shock of Parenthood is loaded with warmth, help, and support for this epic new adventure in your life.

Can I really teach my child the quality of wisdom? It is true that wisdom seems to be an abstract quality. Yet the Book of Proverbs teaches this very quality, and the completed answer comes from the apostle Paul, "Because of Him, you are in Christ who became to us wisdom from God" (1 Corinthians 1:30).Life with Sophie is ten chapters of a family's story. It also has activities and devotionals, all designed around circumstances that every family encounters: learning about the power and vastness of our God, joys and diffi culties with friends, experiencing temptations to disobey, addressing the sadness of divorce, and yet learning that God is in control and will always give wisdom to those who ask.

This book a primer, which just means this is an introduction, a basic book to help you see how valuable you are and to assist you in becoming the best you can be. It's written for a middle school and high school audience and parents. You have value. It's not value you earn. Your worth is intrinsic. It's in you, and no one can take it away from you. You are born with this innate characteristic. You are unique and rare. Because of this, you have great value. If you "be the best you can be," then you can achieve your dreams, and the world will be a better place! It's not about the group you belong to. It's not about the circumstances in your life. There will always be challenges, people who do bad things, adversity, betrayal, and suffering. But you, as a strong individual, have the power within you to overcome these adversities. If you change the thoughts you think about yourself, work harder than everyone else, never give up, and take responsibility for yourself, you can accomplish your goals.

Faith Can Move MountainsThere are times in life we find ourselves facing challenges that are unexpected and difficult to handle. We look for integral sources to help us handle the tough periods along the way. We search for those who have experienced where we are, hoping they will give us the answers to make it through our moments of loneliness, worries, and fear. We hope to find someone to identify with who can inspire us to move forward, give us insight, and get us to our victory. We need someone to help us look at and appreciate the challenge through different lenses other than our own. This gives us greater respect and appreciation for those who have experienced where we are, beat it, endured it, and have not succumbed to it. This book is one of those reads that will make you look at the way you see autism. Children with difficulties are labeled as having a disability. They are called disabled. This book will force you to look at life through another lens. They are not all disabled; they are different. These differences must be recognized and dealt with in ways that may not always be our society's standard. This book will challenge you to look at yourself and how you feel about children with differences. Isaiah and Marcel are champions. She raised a champion, and this book will provoke you to look at the ups and downs, the very dark nights, and the very lonely moments that parents have to endure when there is a society that doesn't understand what it takes to deal with this, day in and day out. Our society must change. "Raising Isaiah" will inspire you to have faith that you may not have had before. This woman's faith, tenacity, and veracity for the love of her child and her faith in God aided her in how to raise a young man to become a contribution and a blessing to society.

'All parents and would-be parents should read this book. It will change their lives.' Mary Ann Sieghart, journalist and bestselling author of The Authority Gap · Why do mothers wake first when their baby cries at night?· Why do fathers take so little time off work to bond with their newborn babies?· Why are mothers never praised for being 'hands on'?· Is there a biological difference in mothers' and fathers' parenting instincts?· Why do nurseries and schools often call mothers first when there is a problem?· Why don't we expect fathers to have a more active role in caring for their children? As a new father and Head of Investigations at The Times, Paul Morgan-Bentley found himself lying awake in bed one night after settling his three-month-old back to sleep. With all these questions buzzing in his mind, he decided to go a mission to answer them. Drawing on his own personal experience of fatherhood - from the utter joy to the sometimes overwhelming panic Paul and his husband felt caring for their new-born son, to the chemist who calls Paul 'MummyDaddy' and the juggle of nursery pick-ups with work deadlines, Paul delves into what it really means to share the parental load. With a range of case studies, research from around the world, and conversations with leading scientists, The Equal Parent explores the truths behind the falsehoods about parenting roles - and why challenging these myths to achieve parenting equality will benefit all of us: mothers, fathers and, most importantly, our children. A myth-busting must-read about creating parenting equality for fans of Caitlin Moran, The Danish Way of Parenting and The Book You Wish Your Parents Had Read. 'With rigorous research and compelling personal insight, The Equal Parent is an essential interrogation of the inequities of modern parenting. This book will change the way you see your family.' Leah Hazard, Sunday Times bestselling author of Womb 'The Equal Parent is an important book - an antidote to the many misconceptions surrounding parenthood. Thoughtful and encouraging, it is an inspiring look at how parenting can be.' Catherine Cho, author of Inferno: A Memoir of Motherhood and Madness 'An incredible book on parenthood.' Ziauddin Yousafzai 'A really valuable book, written with great insight and warmth.' Brian Viner, author and critic

How Can I Escape is a powerful account of a woman who lived apart from God. She lived a life that would be the envy of many: A promising and upcoming piano prodigy and winner of Ms. Illinois through the Shriners (and being prepped for the Miss America Pageant). She was intelligent, beautiful, and determined. Yet there was an emptiness and depression inside of her that she did not know how to handle. It was that emptiness and depression that almost destroyed her. Her battles and struggles ranged from abortion to rape, cancer, and a heart attack. She was homeless, mentally abused in a broken marriage, and ostracized by the church. Yet through it all, she built a loving relationship with God amidst the turmoil around her. I wrote How Can I Escape to give hope to souls who believe their lives are chaotic. Minister/Evangelist Constance D. Dixon was born in Peoria, Illinois. She is a wife, mother of five (four girls and one boy), and grandmother of two girls. Evangelist Constance D. Dixon is the daughter of Alvertus and Nancy Jenkins. As a young child, God blessed her with the gift of music, and she became a child prodigy by playing the classical piano and competing throughout the United States. Evangelist Constance Dixon has a dual bachelor's degree in Music Performance: Applied Piano and Business Administration with an emphasis on Human Resources. She also has a double Masters' degree in Public Administration from APUS and an Executive Leadership from Liberty University. She is also an effective administrator in Human Resources and Education by implementing programs that have enhanced the livelihoods of all she has come across locally and regionally. Her motto is: "What you see is what God has wonderfully and fearfully made."

Publishing an anthology of poetry has been a dream fulfilled for the author of Promises on Velvet Wings. Many of her poems are about her faith in Jesus. The love of the Lord has been the strength and foundation of her life. Regina (Souders) McAfee grew up in the Johnson Community, a rural area on the outskirts of Shawnee, Oklahoma. It was there she began her faith-walk with Jesus when she was a very little girl. She was blessed with loving parents, two brothers, a sister, and a large extended family. She and her husband, William, have nine children and eleven grandchildren. They attend the Johnson Church of God where they were married 56 years ago. Regina retired from North Rock Creek School, where she taught fourth grade for 32 years. She now teaches part time at Earlsboro, where she graduated high school many years ago. Regina loves people and has been able to share her love for Jesus in many ways including being a youth camp counselor, Sunday School teacher, and going on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. She loves to talk and has been blessed to share her love of life and love for the Lord at ladies' church meetings. It is her prayer that these poems of faith, family, friends, and fun will bring joy to the readers. God reminds us in many ways of His love for us. Always cling tightly to His promises-promises sometimes delivered on velvet wings.

If You've Ever Allowed a Three-Year-Old's Temper Tantrum to Ruin You, Then Keep Reading... and learn the no-nonsense approach to positive parenting and raising emotionally intelligent kidsYou're in the middle of the supermarket, and your three-year-old is in full meltdown mode over an icicle. There's yelling, there are tears and snot flying everywhere. Do you: Give in and buy the icicle because you're way too embarrassed Engage in a yelling match with your kid, i.e., lose your marbles completely Drag your kid yelling and screaming out of the supermarket Calmly but firmly stand your ground and tell your little one snacks are waiting for them at home. Now that you look at it, the correct answer is probably obvious. In the heat of the moment, however, most parents will react instinctively, and they'll do irrational things due to stress and exhaustion.Let's face it - even the best and kindest of kids throw temper tantrums. In fact, statistics show that 87% of 18 to 24-month-olds will have a total meltdown every once in a while.Even moms who are as cool as a cucumber will want to punch the wall simply because a five-year-old can't be rationalized with.Being a parent is tough.Mastering the right parenting techniques early on in life is important because intense early childhood parental involvement helps kids develop into emotionally-intelligent, well-rounded adults. You certainly understand the importance of being a hands-on parent. Like many others, however, you may be clueless about how to approach discipline, boundaries, and positive reinforcement.Of all parents, 57% struggle to find the most effective way to discipline kids.Parenting with Purpose provides the answer.Good parenting is based on mutual respect, open communication, and transparency. This is just one of the key lessons included in the latest book by child development experts Aileen Jarvis and Rowan Roffe. As a bonus, the book will apply the techniques to real-life situations that parents struggle with. If you dread mealtime or getting kids ready for kindergarten in the morning, this is the reading material you should have on your nightstand.
