Defining Parenting with PurposeParenting is a journey that comes with great responsibilities but also offers immense rewards. It is a role that requires dedication, love, and a clear purpose. In this subchapter, we delve into the concept of "Parenting with Purpose," exploring what it means and how it can enhance your relationship with your child.Parenting with Purpose is about consciously and intentionally nurturing your child's potential. It goes beyond the day-to-day tasks of providing for their physical needs and delves into the realm of guiding their emotional, intellectual, and moral development. It involves being present, engaged, and proactive in shaping their future. To parent with purpose, you must first understand and embrace your role as a parent. Recognize that you are more than just a caretaker; you are their mentor, guide, and biggest advocate. Your purpose is to provide a loving and supportive environment where your child can flourish and become the best version of themselves.Defining your purpose as a parent requires reflection and self-awareness. What values do you want to instill in your child? What skills and qualities do you hope they will possess? By identifying these aspirations, you can create a roadmap that will guide your parenting decisions and actions.Parenting with Purpose also means fostering a strong bond with your child. This involves spending quality time together, actively listening to them, and being genuinely interested in their thoughts and feelings. By building a solid foundation of trust and open communication, you can better understand their needs and provide the necessary guidance.Furthermore, Parenting with Purpose entails setting clear boundaries and expectations. Children thrive when they have structure and consistency in their lives. By establishing rules and consequences, you help them develop a sense of responsibility, self-discipline, and respect for others.

"Do you remember the time Lorna tried to make ground beef with her car?" For almost forty years, Lorna Stuber's high school classmates have teased her mercilessly about the time she crashed her car into a steer, leaving the car with tufts of bovine hair stuck in cracks in the hood. The car has since been known as "Lorna's Cowfur Mobile". Filled with relatable yet unique stories of sibling rivalry, community, and coming-of-age lessons, Nut Bags and Num-Nums tells the story of a girl growing up on a Canadian cattle ranch in the 1970s and 1980s. With a mix of humour and poignancy, the author enlightens readers on how to dispatch a gopher, gut a chicken, and clean and cook prairie oysters. The book also pays homage to teachers and to Alberta's farmers and ranchers."I've lived in in the jungles of Peru and the suburbs of Tokyo. I've been to Easter Island, Australia, Egypt, the Caribbean, and Europe. But regardless of where I travel, no matter where I live, my feet are grounded in Canadian soil under the expansive Alberta sky. I value the rural lifestyle and the people I've known since childhood who still shape the person I continue to become."

Eloquent and uncompromising, Swell explores the triumphs and hardships of the journey to new motherhood - through pregnancy, miscarriage, birth and beyond In the consultation room I stared at the purple flowers in their purple vase and imagined my insides: an ocean, a cave, a storm. Maria Ferguson's second poetry collection is a raw and powerful documentation of one woman's experience of becoming a mother. Against a backdrop of the sounds and sensations of daily life, she longs for her own mother's embrace, observes as her body changes and charts a course through loss and wilting house plants toward recovery, empowerment and renewal. Tender, direct and winningly witty, Swell distils the poet's complex feelings surrounding family and domesticity, exploring the contending weight and levity felt as she contemplates a thrillingly unfamiliar new chapter. Ferguson is a poet as alert to the absurd as to the shattering, and these are large-hearted poems, full of life and thought. Together, they invite the reader to join them in a search for self-acceptance, for freedom from shame, and for a path to stability in increasingly uncertain times.

Storytelling is elevated to an art form on the front porch. Laughter flows as easily as the soft shadows that fall across the yard. Children giggle as they case fireflies while the grownups sip sweet tea. This is a time of magic. One by one, the children creep up on the porch and find empty places to sit, or they climb onto some's lap and snuggle, feeling safe in the bosom of a loving family. As evening hugs the big ole elm tree, the tone of the stories becomes more subdued, and the eyelids of the children grow heavy. Pretty soon, the only noise is the creak of the porch swing and an occasional chuckle from a grownup. The cool night air and the whippoorwills sing the end of a summer day; this is the music that lulls us to complete contentment. Storytelling has been one of the most important elements in our family. We have fun laughing at others, and we love telling stories on ourselves to allow others to laugh with us. The retelling of a story only makes it better. The following stories have been collected over the last twenty-five years. I have recorded them as I remembered them. These stories are true, and some may have been s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d a little, so take them in the spirit of fun, and enjoy! Laughter is good medicine. -Juliana Hamilton Chase

Greetings dear reader,American author, Roy T Bennett once remarked, "Somethings cannot be taught; they must be experienced. You never learn the most valuable lessons in life until you go through your own journey."One of the things that falls in this category is Parenting. Call it an art or science or whatever else, none can claim to have mastered it. If you ask me, parenting is essentially a process, a journey one has to embark to not only unravel one's child but also to discover oneself. I consider myself fortunate - along with my wife, to be part of a "blessed journey - a roller-coaster ride of parenting and through it, the (ongoing) process of self-discovery."In this semi-autobiographical book, I have tried to capture some cardinal events of our life, as parents, which not only brought us face-to-face with each other but with our own-selves too. This is not intended to be a parental manual or handbook; it is a true story of how an ordinary couple - with individual 'egos' achievements and aspirations - mustered the courage to consciously walk together the life-path as 'man & wife', overcame their 'separateness', to evolve into a 'couple' who became responsive parents - and - in the process, embraced the journey of self-discovery. A life story becomes uplifting if it has been lived well or, is worth living; in other words, something readers can intimately relate to; otherwise, it becomes a mental construct that may be idealistic or fantastic, even have glamorous elements, but bereft of life-force! With all humility, gratitude and prayer in my heart, I offer the story of my wife and me - as parents, who allowed themselves to be brought-up by their children - as much as they brought them up.I hope it will be embraced by the readers, both parents and children alike, and in the least, set you thinking. Though I do not possess the power to urge you like Socrates did when he said, "an unexamined life is not worth living", but should this story resonate with you, dear reader, this endeavour would be worth.

"Having a child in a burning world is one of the biggest existential decisions of the climate generation. Who can imagine thriving in the future? Who has access to quality of life in the Anthropocene? What are the racial politics of reproduction when resources are increasingly limited? Climate Anxiety and the Kid Question makes a critical intervention in the discussion about whether to reproduce in this era of climate emergency. Jade S. Sasser argues that although race has always been an unspoken dimension of reproductive anxiety in environmental discourse, it has taken on new salience in recent movements for racial justice, climate change, and abortion rights. As the first book to analyze how race shapes reproductive and climate anxiety, Climate Anxiety and the Kid Question de-centers whiteness in climate emotions research."--Sarah Jaquette Ray, author of A Field Guide to Climate Anxiety: How to Keep Your Cool on a Warming Planet "Sasser's work provides much-needed insight into the racial dimensions of climate-and-reproductive anxiety. This book demonstrates why such research is important, and why we need much more of it." -Britt Wray, author of Generation Dread and Director of the Special Initiative on Climate Change and Mental Health, Stanford Medicine. "Climate Anxiety and the Kid Question prompts readers to reflect on their own emotions related to reproduction, race, and climate action, presenting a clear and achievable call to action to increase mental health services for BIPOC folks. A key contribution is framing mental health care and climate anxiety as climate justice issues."--Corrie Grosse, author of Working across Lines: Resisting Extreme Energy Extraction "Brilliant and urgently needed, Sasser's second book helps us to connect the planetary, the intimate, the structural, and the cultural in order to address climate anxiety and the 'kid question'--and indeed climate injustice more broadly--in caring, generous, transformative ways. Sasser's investigation of the role of racialization and racism in these areas addresses a critical gap in current understandings of climate emotions."--Blanche Verlie, author of Learning to Live with Climate Change: From Anxiety to Transformation
