Presents green economy related definitions and concepts, and internationally developed assessment methods, notably natural capital accounting approaches, and in this way explores aligning forest sector approaches to those being used in wider contexts.

Provides an overview of the current policy and regulatory environment regarding sustainable construction materials in the building sector in Europe and North America, and, where applicable, offers a commentary on the effectiveness of such regimes in driving the adoption of wood products.

This study is the contribution of the ECE Region to the eleventh session of the UN Forum on Forests. Using the best available data, it examines progress of the forest sector in the ECE Region towards the achievement of the four Global Objectives on Forests, adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2007. Thirteen major challenges for the forest sector in the region are identified and analysed.
