Located in an arid climate zone, with an economy still largely dominated by agro-sylvo-pastoral production, Burkina Faso has a relatively high population growth rate and is experiencing increasing pressure on natural resources. The country therefore faces a number of challenges, not the least of which is the need to reconcile the needs of the population with the need to maintain and even develop these resources. Although the problems are well known and are the subject of a great deal of thought and analysis, leading to the design of development policies and strategies by public authorities, NGOs and civil society organisations, the impact of significant action to translate the concept of sustainable development into concrete reality remains mixed. Initiatives aimed at involving local communities more closely are based on the evidence that any sustainable change requires the interests of the main stakeholders to be taken into account. This must be done within the framework of a genuinely participatory process, from the identification of problems to the implementation and monitoring of actions.

Situato in una zona climatica arida, con un'economia ancora largamente dominata dalla produzione agro-silvo-pastorale, il Burkina Faso ha un tasso di crescita demografica relativamente alto e sta sperimentando una crescente pressione sulle risorse naturali. Il Paese si trova quindi ad affrontare una serie di sfide, non ultima la necessità di conciliare i bisogni della popolazione con la necessità di mantenere e persino sviluppare queste risorse. Sebbene i problemi siano ben noti e siano oggetto di numerose riflessioni e analisi, che hanno portato all'elaborazione di politiche e strategie di sviluppo da parte delle autorità pubbliche, delle ONG e delle organizzazioni della società civile, l'impatto di azioni significative volte a tradurre il concetto di sviluppo sostenibile in realtà concrete rimane eterogeneo. Le iniziative volte a coinvolgere maggiormente le comunità locali si basano sull'evidenza che qualsiasi cambiamento sostenibile richiede la presa in considerazione degli interessi delle principali parti interessate. Ciò deve avvenire nell'ambito di un processo realmente partecipativo, dall'identificazione dei problemi all'attuazione e al monitoraggio delle azioni.

Burkina Faso, das in einer ariden Klimazone liegt und dessen Wirtschaft noch weitgehend von der Agrar-, Forst- und Viehwirtschaft geprägt ist, verzeichnet ein relativ hohes Bevölkerungswachstum und einen immer stärker werdenden Druck auf die natürlichen Ressourcen. Das Land muss sich daher zahlreichen Herausforderungen stellen, darunter nicht zuletzt der Aufgabe, die Bedürfnisse der Bevölkerung mit der Notwendigkeit der Erhaltung und sogar der Entwicklung dieser Ressourcen in Einklang zu bringen. Obwohl die Probleme bekannt sind und Gegenstand zahlreicher Überlegungen und Analysen sind, die zur Entwicklung von Entwicklungspolitiken und -strategien sowohl von staatlichen Stellen als auch von NGOs und Organisationen der Zivilgesellschaft führen, sind die Auswirkungen signifikanter Maßnahmen zur Umsetzung des Konzepts der nachhaltigen Entwicklung in konkrete Realität noch immer gemischt. Die Initiativen, die sich auf eine stärkere Einbeziehung der Bevölkerung beziehen, stützen sich auf die offensichtliche Tatsache, dass jeder nachhaltige Wandel die Berücksichtigung der Interessen der wichtigsten Akteure erfordert. Dies muss im Rahmen eines wirklich partizipativen Prozesses von der Identifizierung der Probleme bis zur Umsetzung und Überwachung der Maßnahmen geschehen.

Situado numa zona de clima árido, com uma economia ainda largamente dominada pela produção agro-silvo-pastoril, o Burkina Faso tem uma taxa de crescimento demográfico relativamente elevada e está a sofrer uma pressão crescente sobre os recursos naturais. Por conseguinte, o país enfrenta vários desafios, entre os quais a necessidade de conciliar as necessidades da população com a necessidade de manter e mesmo desenvolver estes recursos. Embora os problemas sejam bem conhecidos e tenham sido objeto de muitas reflexões e análises, que conduziram à conceção de políticas e estratégias de desenvolvimento por parte das autoridades públicas, das ONG e das organizações da sociedade civil, o impacto das acções significativas destinadas a traduzir o conceito de desenvolvimento sustentável numa realidade concreta continua a ser heterogéneo. As iniciativas destinadas a envolver mais estreitamente as comunidades locais baseiam-se na evidência de que qualquer mudança sustentável exige que sejam tidos em conta os interesses das principais partes interessadas. Isto deve ser feito no âmbito de um processo genuinamente participativo, desde a identificação dos problemas até à execução e ao acompanhamento das acções.
