Arne De Boever is faculty in the School of Critical Studies and director of the MA Aesthetics and Politics program at the California Institute of the Arts. His works include States of Exception in the Contemporary Novel, Narrative Care, Plastic Sovereignties, and Finance Fictions.

Interrupting the dialectic by which sovereignty manages to be both the cause of our vulnerabilization and the tool of its prevention, in Being Vulnerable Arne De Boever explores how today's experiences of vulnerabilization can be translated into a collective human power that dismantles the form of sovereignty that is producing this state of affairs.

Arne de Boever offers an accessible introduction to Francois Jullien's work, highlighting Jullien's work at the intersection of Chinese and Western thought and drawing out the 'unthought-of' in both traditions of thinking. In the process he emphatically challenges some of the core assumptions of Western reasoning.

Finance Fictions examines the tension between psychosis and realism in the contemporary finance novel and shows that compared to earlier instances of the genre (Wolfe; Ellis), the 21st-century finance novel (Alger; Harris; Houellebecq; Lerner) develops a new realist approach to a contemporary economy of financial instruments and automated trading.

Through a sustained engagement with the work of Giorgio Agamben and Catherine Malabou, and against the background of contemporary political phenomena, Arne De Boever explores what positive political possibilities the notion of sovereignty might still hold.
