The American Anti=Socialist>By John Basil Barnhill, Editor and Publisher. The inevitable effect of Socialism would be to sacrifice liberty on the altar of a procrustean conception of equality. In the interest, therefore, a political freedom which it violates and derides; in the interest of commercial freedom which it openly seeks to destroy; in the interest of Art and Genius which it would sterilize; in the interest of the Democratic principles which it contravenes; in the interest of the home which it threatens, Socialism must be destroyed. John Basil Barnhill (1864-1929) Noted anti-socialist writer, politician, lecturer, debater, and editor of various journals including: The Eagle and The Serpent, "A Journal of Egoistic Philosophy and Sociology." 1898-1902 (under pseud. John Erwin McCall)The Nationalist, "A Journal for Free Peoples and for Peoples Struggling to be Free." 1900-1902The American Anti=Socialist, "An organ of Jeffersonian Democracy." 1912-1914Humanity First, "The orderly evolution of society can be secured only by the abolition of interest." 1919-1921

SOCIALISTS AND SOCIALISMA Book About the Socialists and About Socialism In his work, Mr. Watson takes up, one by one, each of the propositions of Karl Marx, and discusses them fully and fairly. He also analyses the great book of Herr Bebel, the world-leader of Socialism, "Woman Under Socialism." Mr. Watson cites standard historical works to prove that Bebel, Marx and other Socialist leaders are altogether wrong about, The Origin of Prosperity, The rise of the Marital relation, The Cause of the inequality of Wealth, etc. Mr. Watson demonstrates that Socialism-as taught by Marx, Bebel, LaSalle, Engel, etc.- would annihilate Individuality and personal liberty, Home-life as we know it, The Marital relation, with its protection to women, and finally RELIGION OF ALL KINDS.Mr. Watson proves that SPECIAL PRIVILAGE intrenched in law and in government, is now, and always has been, the Great Enemy of the Human race.

THE COMING TERROR; OR, THE AUSTRALIAN REVOLUTIONA Romance of the twentieth centuryBy Samuel Albert Rosa 1866 - 1940 This book is intended as both a warning and a prediction. The writer is no Anarchist. He desires to see the inevitable change from capitalism to collectivism, facilitated by the peaceful action of an enlightened populace voting at the polls. The shedding of blood and the destruction of human life is as abhorrent to him as it is to the most humane philanthropist; but he perceives that the present tendency of affairs political, financial and economic in Australia, is towards the annihilation of the middle-class, and the reduction of the proletarians to a condition of abject subjection. Humiliated and degraded slaves have but one remedy, a servile revolt which might and probably would take the form of the violent and bloody upheaval sketched in this book. To avoid such a catastrophe, it is necessary to have an awakening of public spirit, of a sufficiently determined, searching and energetic nature to secure the purification of governments, the making of good laws and their wise administration.

ARTHUR DESMONDA RADICAL DEMAGOGUEArthur Desmond (1859-1929), a young local Napier, a common worker, a cattle-drover, came from nowhere as 'a representative of the small settler and the working man' when he stood for parliament in Hawke's Bay, New Zealand in 1884. Mr. Desmond caused quite a big stir in the political establishment as an unknown candidate with his strong and radical views. He lost to Captain Russel, and came last at a third place with 190 votes against Capt.Russel's 564, and Mr. Sutton's 381. This compilation will not try to say or explain anything other than what has already been reported by the press between 1884-1885. What it will do is give you Arthur Desmond's first ever speeches, commentary, correspondence, and articles filled with critique and praise. Poetry, and Politics-Love, and War, well, maybe not soo much love. Later, we have learned that Arthur Desmond lived a life under many different names, one of the most notorius was Ragnar Redbeard, under which he wrote the infamous, and supressed book Might is Right, published in 1896. Another, and much less widely known nom de plume he used for a brief period was "Keo Kaha," a Maori signature which means Strong Point.Enjoy this little "scrapbook," a time-piece of the political radical Arthur Desmond. From cattle-drover to Radical Demagogue.A compilation of articles related to Arthur Desmond's first political steps in the 1884 Hawke's Bay election, New Zealand. Stunning articles about the labor movement, unpublished poetry, and historic Maori translations. Caricature depictions accompanied by writings which caused its author to be accused of plagiarism. In June 1890 Arthur Desmond got his article "Christ as a Social Reformer," published in "Zealandia," a Dunedin magazine. The article quickly became popular and in October he arranged for it to be printed as a pamphlet by Mr. Arthur Cleave, of Vulcan lane. Presented here for the first time since then is Arthur Desmond's accused article followed by Mr. Van Deusen's article "Ecclesiastical Christianity versus Jesus." "Writings in Red" is a collection of Desmond's writings, poetry, and correspondence. All his published works in Zealandia. His Union and strike articles. Critiques and controversy between the years 1889-1891."The author treats the subject in a style that is new to many in this city. He looks upon Christ as a great Hebrew Reformer, who was murdered because he upheld and defended the cause of the poor. The Tribune recommends this pamphlet to its readers." -The TribuneFrom the Contents: The King That Is To ComeThe Starving Poor Of Old EnglandShearing The ShareholdersPolitical Manifesto Of United LabourWho Pays For All?New Zealander Arthur Desmond, (1859-1929) was a poet, author, unionist, and agitator. He was an unconventional and radical political activist who fought hard for the worker's rights.
