As for the general public, apart fromdermatophytic infections of the skin and nails, awareness about fungal infectionsremains limited. However, with rise in the number of immunocompromisedindividuals and use of modern medical devices, invasive fungal infections havereached staggering numbers. Despite the fact that only a fraction of fungal species arepathogenic to humans, they are responsible for significant degree of morbidity andmortality (Pfaller and Diekema 2004; Srinivasan et al. 2014). Most fungal infectionsare predominantly caused by Candida, Cryptococcus and Aspergillus species.
