Auguste Blanqui nasceu em 1805 e morreu em 1881. O movimento revolucionário do século XIX é incompreensível sem estudar a sua figura e atualizar, com perguntas renovadas, suas indagações sobre essa particular modulação do tempo que chamamos eternidade. E, nesse sentido, também recebe Blanqui a aposturade um pensamento capaz de interrogar por inteiro os legados ideológicos com que contamos nos inícios do século XXI. Com maior ou menor razão, Blanqui costuma ser considerado como antecedente das teorias de partido político desenvolvidasdécadas depois pelo leninismo. Nobreve tempo dos sempre lembráveis acontecimentos da Comuna de Paris, Blanqui permaneceu preso no forte de Taureau. Seus anos de prisão foram muito longos. Blanqui é o grande preso político do século XIX, como Gramsci o foi no século XX. Permaneceu 37 anos na prisão, pelo que, na lenda revolucionária da Europa insurrecional, foi chamado de L¿Enfermé, o Enclausurado. Em 1871, no ano da Comuna, éque escreve A eternidade conforme os astros, do qual muitas vezes tem se dito que antecede o 'eterno retorno' de Nietzsche. A influência de Blanqui sobre a obra posterior de Walter Benjamin é notória, e foi Benjamin quem fez dele uma personagem central de sua obra Passagens. Na Argentina, esta obra de Blanquinãopassarádespercebida para Borges, que a tem presente em suaHistória da eternidade.
