A tense thriller which tackles issues of the abuse of a country's powers to stop parents seeking overseas help for their 'incurable' children. Reverses the normal convention whereby the government, authorities and the law are considered 'good', and those who resist them are considered 'bad'.
The book has two distinct themes. One is the story of a group of political dissidents who are priced to go into exile from Britain at the start of WW2, because they learn that they are in danger of being arrested an detained without trial under the Emergency Power Act, which was rushed through Parliament in August 1939.
