Il y a plusieurs décennies, le mariage des femmes dans la plupart des pays d'Afrique subsaharienne pouvait raisonnablement être décrit comme précoce et quasi-universel. Cependant, dans de nombreux pays de la région, on observe une tendance à retarder le début du mariage, le mariage précoce devenant moins répandu. Cette tendance est plus marquée chez les femmes urbaines et plus instruites. L'augmentation de l'âge du premier mariage a joué un rôle important dans la transition de la fertilité en cours dans certaines parties de l'Afrique subsaharienne. Cette monographie examine les schémas d'union des jeunes femmes (âgées de 15 à 29 ans) dans plus de deux douzaines de pays d'Afrique subsaharienne, dans le but de documenter et d'analyser l'étendue et la nature des changements en cours dans l'accès à l'union dans la région. Nous utilisons les données des enquêtes démographiques et de santé (EDS). Après avoir examiné les tendances en matière de mariage, nous analysons les facteurs associés à ces tendances, en particulier l'éducation et le bien-être économique des femmes. Enfin, nous évaluons le rôle des baisses observées dans les pourcentages de femmes en union dans la transition de la fertilité qui a lieu en Afrique subsaharienne.

Há várias décadas, o casamento entre as mulheres na maior parte da África Subsariana podia ser razoavelmente descrito como precoce e quase universal. No entanto, em muitos países da região, verifica-se uma tendência para atrasar o início do casamento, com o casamento precoce a tornar-se menos prevalecente. Esta tendência é mais notória entre as mulheres urbanas e mais instruídas. O aumento da idade do primeiro casamento, por sua vez, tem desempenhado um papel importante na atual transição da fertilidade em algumas partes da África Subsariana. Esta monografia examina os padrões de união das mulheres jovens (entre os 15 e os 29 anos) em mais de duas dúzias de países da África Subsariana, com o objetivo de documentar e analisar a extensão e a natureza das mudanças em curso na entrada para a união que estão a ocorrer na região. Utilizamos dados dos Inquéritos Demográficos e de Saúde (IDS). Depois de analisarmos as tendências do casamento, analisamos os factores associados a essas tendências, sobretudo a educação e o bem-estar económico das mulheres. Por fim, avaliamos o papel dos declínios observados nas percentagens de mulheres em união de facto na contribuição para a transição da fertilidade que está a ocorrer na África Subsariana.

Alcuni decenni fa, il matrimonio tra le donne nella maggior parte dell'Africa subsahariana poteva ragionevolmente essere descritto come precoce e quasi universale. Tuttavia, in molti Paesi della regione si registra una tendenza a ritardare l'inizio del matrimonio, mentre il matrimonio precoce sta diventando meno diffuso. Questa tendenza è più evidente tra le donne urbane e più istruite. L'aumento dell'età del primo matrimonio, a sua volta, ha giocato un ruolo importante nella transizione della fertilità in corso in alcune parti dell'Africa subsahariana. Questa monografia esamina i modelli di unione delle giovani donne (di età compresa tra i 15 e i 29 anni) in più di due dozzine di Paesi dell'Africa subsahariana, con l'obiettivo di documentare e analizzare l'entità e la natura dei cambiamenti in corso nell'accesso all'unione che si stanno verificando nella regione. Utilizziamo i dati delle indagini demografiche e sanitarie (DHS). Dopo aver esaminato le tendenze del matrimonio, analizziamo i fattori associati a queste tendenze, in particolare l'istruzione e il benessere economico delle donne. Infine, valutiamo il ruolo del calo osservato nelle percentuali di donne unite in matrimonio nel contribuire alla transizione della fertilità in atto nell'Africa subsahariana.

Vor einigen Jahrzehnten konnte man die Heirat von Frauen in den meisten afrikanischen Ländern südlich der Sahara mit Fug und Recht als früh und nahezu universell bezeichnen. In vielen Ländern der Region ist jedoch ein Trend zur Verzögerung des Heiratsbeginns zu beobachten, wobei frühe Eheschließungen immer weniger verbreitet sind. Dieser Trend ist vor allem bei städtischen und besser gebildeten Frauen zu beobachten. Das steigende Alter bei der ersten Eheschließung hat wiederum eine wichtige Rolle bei der derzeitigen Veränderung der Fruchtbarkeit in einigen Teilen des subsaharischen Afrikas gespielt. In dieser Monografie werden die Bindungsmuster junger Frauen (im Alter von 15 bis 29 Jahren) in mehr als zwei Dutzend Ländern Afrikas südlich der Sahara untersucht, um das Ausmaß und die Art der laufenden Veränderungen beim Eintritt in die Partnerschaft in der Region zu dokumentieren und zu analysieren. Wir verwenden Daten aus den Erhebungen zur Demografie und Gesundheit (DHS). Nachdem wir die Trends bei der Eheschließung untersucht haben, analysieren wir die Faktoren, die mit diesen Trends zusammenhängen, insbesondere die Bildung und das wirtschaftliche Wohlergehen der Frauen. Abschließend bewerten wir, inwieweit der beobachtete Rückgang des prozentualen Anteils der verheirateten Frauen zu dem Fertilitätswandel in Subsahara-Afrika beiträgt.
