Objectif : comparer histo-morphologiquement la densité des mastocytes, l'épaisseur de l'épithélium, la densité moyenne des vaisseaux dans la gencive avant et après l'administration de stabilisateurs de mastocytes. Paramètres et conception : La présente étude transversale a été menée sur 45 patients atteints de parodontite chronique. Des biopsies gingivales ont été prélevées sur 45 patients répartis en deux groupes : le groupe 1 avant l'administration de stabilisateurs de mastocytes et le groupe 2 après l'administration de stabilisateurs de mastocytes. Les groupes ont été subdivisés en fumeurs et non-fumeurs. L'épaisseur de l'épithélium, la densité moyenne des vaisseaux et le nombre de mastocytes ont été évalués à l'aide d'une analyse histo-morphométrique. Les résultats de cette étude ont révélé que la densité moyenne des mastocytes et la densité moyenne des vaisseaux ont diminué après l'administration de stabilisateurs de mastocytes dans le groupe 2 par rapport au groupe 1. Il n'y a pas eu de différence significative dans l'épaisseur de l'épithélium entre les deux groupes. Conclusion : Les mastocytes jouent un rôle crucial dans le maintien et la progression de la maladie parodontale car la densité moyenne des mastocytes était élevée avant l'administration de stabilisateurs de mastocytes.

Objectivo: Comparar histo-morfologicamente a densidade de mastócitos, a espessura do epitélio, a densidade média de vasos na gengiva antes e depois da administração de estabilizadores de mastócitos. Definições e Desenho: O presente estudo transversal foi realizado em 45 pacientes diagnosticados com periodontite crónica. Foram obtidas biópsias gengivais de 45 pacientes categorizados em 2 grupos: grupo 1 antes da administração de estabilizadores de mastócitos e grupo 2 após a administração de estabilizadores de mastócitos. Os grupos foram sub-categorizados em fumadores e não fumadores. A espessura epitelial, a densidade média de vasos e o número de mastócitos foram avaliados através de análise histo-morfométrica. Os resultados deste estudo revelaram que a densidade média de mastócitos e a densidade média de vasos diminuíram após a administração de estabilizadores de mastócitos no grupo 2, em comparação com o grupo 1. Não houve diferença significativa na espessura do epitélio entre os dois grupos. Conclusão: Os mastócitos desempenham um papel crucial na manutenção e progressão da doença periodontal, uma vez que a densidade média de mastócitos era elevada antes da administração de estabilizadores de mastócitos.

Aim: To histo-morphologically compare the mast cell density, epithelium thickness, mean vessel density in the gingiva before and after giving mast cell stabilizers. Settings and Design: The present cross-sectional study was conducted on 45 patients diagnosed with chronic periodontitis. Gingival biopsies were obtained from 45 patients categorized into 2 groups: group 1 before giving mast cell stabilizers and group 2 after giving mast cell stabilizers. The groups were sub-categorized as smokers and non-smokers. The epithelial thickness, mean vessel density and number of mast cells were assessed using histo-morphometric analysis. Results of this study revealed that the mean mast cell density and mean vessel density decreased after giving mast cell stabilizers in group 2 compared to group 1. There was no significant difference in the epithelium thickness between both the groups. Conclusion: Mast cells play a crucial role in the sustenance and progression of periodontal disease as mean mast cell density was high before giving mast cell stabilizers.
