This book serves as a supplement to "The Pyrazines", volume 41 of the Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds series. It covers the literature published between 1979 and 2000, and - together with volume 41 - provides a complete reference for heterocyclic chemists.

Drawing from over 2,500 papers, this volume eliminates the need for time-consuming literature surveys for pyrimidines from 1970 through 1983. Chapters summarize the major advances in pyrimidine chemistry, detail advances in methods of primary synthesis of pyrimidines, update all aspects of hydropyrimidines, and treat recent advances in the ionization and spectra of pyrimidines.

This supplement reflects and emphasizes research trends. Due to the increase in the number and types of individualized quinazolines, the author has replaced the myriad classified tables of known quinazolines with a single alphabetical table of simple known quinazolines.

The Cumulative Index of Systems Reviewed in the Chemistry of Heterocyclic Compounds is a collection of data for the approximately 2700 systems reviewed therein that serves as a useful guide to locating information in this well established and reputable series.
