Hard Aground...Again: Inspiration for the Navigationally Challenged and Spiritually Stuck, or The Incomplete Idiot's Guide to Doing Stupid Stuff With BoatsNoah had a hundred years to plan his first cruise and he still ran aground at the end of the passage. The Apostle Paul dreamed of harbor-hopping the coast of Italy but wrecked on a reef and had to swim ashore. Even the great and powerful Moses got stuck in the weeds of the Nile. Running aground is nothing to be ashamed of, but staying stuck is. In Hard Aground . . . Again, columnist Eddie Jones turns his unique way of looking at the sailing lifestyle to a unique way of looking at life, family, and God. For anyone who feels their hopes have been sitting high and dry or their dreams are all washed up, these brief meditations will help turn the tide.¿With over 32 humorous essays, this book brings spiritual insight and humor into the trials and disappointments of boating, relationships and living in general. Hard Aground... Again is about getting your life unstuck and your dreams soaring again.A satisfying large dose of Eddie's down-to-earth humor... along with a goodly supply of advice (some of it actually useful!)..." - From The Foreword by Ted Brewer

Selah Award Winner for YA Literature - In this YA pirate tale, award-winning author Eddie Jones blends action, adventure, and humor into a fictional retelling of the pirate exploits of Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, and Mary Read. While searching for rumored treasure in a cave on Coffin Cay, a small island off the southwestern tip of Haiti (Hispaniola), Ricky suffers an absence seizure. During his last trance-like episode, Ricky uncovered a treasure from the Nuestra Señora de Riqueza, a vessel in an armada of ships sailing the Spanish Main. Now back on Coffin Cay with his parents, Ricky hunts for the treasure he found in the cave over three hundred years earlier during his trip back to pirate land. The End of Calico Jack is a fictional retelling of the pirate escapades of Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, and Mary Read. The story is based on historical research of the life of "Calico Jack" John Rackham. Also, in real life those who suffer absence seizures may appear to be in a trance but cannot recall what happens during their episode. The book includes a PIRATE MAP of Calico Jack's sailing routes and the ports he visited.Parents can trust the Caribbean Chronicles Series. If you were forced to sail with pirates . . .captured and tried for piracy . . .and sentenced to swing . . . would you trade your body to the crew of the "Flying Dutchman" in order to save your soul? Ricky did. Some dead men DO tell tales. And there is stolen treasure in this pirate story.¿Directors' Choice Award Winner Finalist ¿Last winter Ricky Bradshaw was another gangly freshman hoping to fit in -- or at least not get picked on -- and maybe catch the attention of Becky Nance, a girl in his biology class. Ricky's teachers are a lot of those people. And that's what happened to Ricky last Christmas Eve: he had an episode and ended up in pirate land. When Dead Calm, Bone Dry begins, Ricky is on his way to being tried for piracy. In the ship's brig, he is about to learn that some things are worse than being unpopular in high school. MUCH worse. Like sailing to . . . Well, we best let Ricky tell the account. It is his story, after all.Parents can trust the Caribbean Chronicles Series. There is no sexual dialogue or situations, violence, or strong language, only a wee little bit of humor. :) We hope you enjoy these pirate books for young adults, teens, and older kids.

'The 25th day of November the house of Syon was suppressed into the King's hands, and the ladies and brethren put out, which was the [most] virtuous house of religion that was in England.' So wrote the chronicler Charles Wriothesley in 1539. But the story of Syon Abbey did not end with the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Founded by Henry V in 1415, England's only house of the Bridgettine order had been one of the richest monasteries of medieval England. Now the community went underground; they returned briefly under Queen Mary, only to leave again with the accession of Elizabeth. They were to spend more than half a century 'wandering'-through the Netherlands and France, an exodus that brought them, in 1594, to Lisbon in Portugal. Here they remained until 1861, when circumstances at last allowed a return home to England. They settled in Devon, where the remaining sisters now live in retirement. The history of Syon Abbey is an inspiring story of faith and fortitude, of an enclosed, contemplative community that found itself living through persecution and martyrdom, wars and revolutions, fire and earthquake, over six centuries of unbroken tradition and unyielding faith. This book celebrates the sexcentenary of that community in 2015.
