He is somewhat over fifty, a long-faced gentleman with sandy-grey hair and a slither of side whiskers that mercifully distract attention from his large outstanding ears. A high and flat-crowned bowler hat matches and yet does not match a frockcoat tightly buttoned across his sparse chest. His boots are square-toed, his cravat is ready-made. In short, he seems to be a rather harmless, somewhat eccentric gentleman. But it is fatal to underestimate Mr. J.G. Reeder ...

"Terror Keep" is a 1927 novel by English writer Edgar Wallace. After narrowly avoiding the wrath of highly-intelligent and arguably-insane villain John Flack, Detective JG Reeder and his secretary, Margaret Belman become locked in a deadly duel with the evil genius. A gripping page-turner, this novel is not to be missed by fans and collectors of detective fiction. Richard Horatio Edgar Wallace (1 April 1875 - 10 February 1932) was an English writer and journalist. He was a prolific writer, producing in his lifetime screen plays, historical non-fiction, poetry, 18 stage plays, over 170 novels, and 957 short stories. He is most famous for being the creator of King Kong, and for his "The Green Archer" serial. Other notable works by this author include: "Kate Plus Ten" (1919), "The Crimson Circle" (1922) and "The Valley of Ghosts" (1922). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. It is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.

Edgar Wallace was a hugely successful author who over the course of his career produced some 173 books and seventeen plays. These were largely adventure narratives with elements of crime or mystery, and usually combined a bombastic sensationalism with hammy violence. First published in 1929, 'The Ghost of Down Hill' is one of his best-remembered novellas. Many of the earliest ghost stories and tales of hauntings, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.
