Der Philosoph Ernst Cassirer (1874 - 1945) "wird einerseits dem naturwissenschaftlich orientierten Neukantianismus der Marburger Schule zugeordnet. Über die Kategorie der symbolischen Formen und Themen der Sprachphilosophie nahm Cassirer aber auch genuine Denkströmungen des 20. Jahrhunderts auf und formulierte eine eigenständige Kulturphilosophie." (Wikipedia) In dem hier vorliegenden Werk will der Autor das Wesen des deutschen Geistes in seinem Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Freiheit und Form nicht bloß als abstrakte Formel, sondern vielmehr "in den 'Taten und Leiden' der deutschen Geistesgeschichte selbst zur mittelbaren Darstellung" bringen. (Vorwort) Dies behandelt er in den folgenden Kapiteln: Leibniz - Die Entdeckung der ästhetischen Formenwelt - Die Freiheitsidee im System des kritischen Idealismus - Goethe - Schiller - Freiheitsidee und Staatsidee. Nachdruck der zweiten Auflage in Frakturschrift aus dem Jahr 1918.

Dieses Buch ""Heinrich von Kleist und die Kantische Philosophie "" wurde in der gesamten Menschheitsgeschichte als wichtig angesehen, und damit dieses Werk niemals vergessen wird, haben wir uns bemüht, es zu bewahren, indem wir dieses Buch in einem modernen Format für gegenwärtige und zukünftige Generationen neu herausgeben. Dieses ganze Buch wurde neu formatiert, neu abgetippt und gestaltet. Diese Bücher bestehen nicht aus gescannten Kopien ihrer Originalarbeit und daher ist der Text klar und lesbar.

Die Nachzeichnung der Verschmelzung von Leben und Lehre im Wirken des großen Philosophen ist für Cassirer eine zentrale ideengeschichtliche Aufgabe, denn: "Descartes gehört zu jenen Denkern, bei denen Leben und Werk in völligem Einklang miteinander stehen. Der Gedanke selbst ist es, der hier das Leben formt und der seinen Inhalt und seine Eigenart bestimmt." Und die Auseinandersetzung mit Descartes' Leben und Leistung "führt wie von selbst und mit sachlicher Notwendigkeit zu [.] einer allgemeinen Bestimmung dessen, was man als die Aufgabe und das Wesen der Philosophie versteht."In Teil I seines 1939 im Exil erschienenen Descartes-Buches beschreibt Cassirer den Rang und die zeitbedingte Grenze der theoretischen Leistung, in Teil II die Stellung Descartes' in seinem Jahrhundert unter besonderer Betonung der praktischen Vernunft Descartes', seiner Ethik.
