Imagine that the oldest civilisation in the universe, at the height of its power, isforced to compromise with its finiteness because the scientific community made themistake of not considering the cosmos to be still too compressed. Hundreds of thousandsof years that could have been spent in peace and progress were instead wasted insenseless wars, the desire for immortality and collective madness. The escape from thehome planet of the survivors from this insanity to Ahton-ak, a world in anotherdimension, to get away from it all, where the normal laws of physics did not exist, might not have been enough to save them from the end of time anyway, but it wouldcertainly have saved them from the "momentary" expulsion of matter from their sun as ittransitioned from red giant to white dwarf. Una probabile storia del mondo avvenuta in un passato/futuro non ben determinato e di durata difficilmente quantificabile, l'ennesima probabile storia di quanto accaduto, più che alla civiltà umana, al bioma terrestre sulla superficie del nostropianeta, stavolta iniziando a partire da vicende che casualmente seguono di pari passo gli esiti delle guerre degli uomini.Nel lunghissimo periodo, infatti, tra le innumerevoli possibili combinazioni nella successione dei fatti futuri, potrebbebenissimo essere avvenuto il suo ripetersi e anche il verificarsi di un parallelismo riguardante però masse di specievegetali intente ad avanzare una contro l'altra per il predominio sulla Terra. Se ci poniamo in ottica temporaleancor più lunga, il mondo vegetale presente sul pianeta ben molto prima di noi, alla fine sarebbe stato in assoluto, sempre e comunque, il vero protagonista delle vicende terrene, vicende che come per la civiltà degli uomini sarebbero potute cominciare e ricominciare all'infinito, in un ciclo continuo. Fermo restando il nostro miope modo di vedere le cose entro un certo periodo di tempo e non oltre, cosa sarebbe stato delle possibilità evolutive vegetali quando secondo le attuali comuni conoscenze di ecologi e studiosi di reti simbiotiche forestali trovano un'incredibile somiglianza tra il funzionamento della rete Internet e quella del loro "micelio" fungino radicale sotterraneo, se non un'infrastruttura complessa resiliente e migliorabile, per comunicazioni, avvisi in caso di attacchi nemici trasmessi per via chimica e attivazione remota delle difese, cure parentali e riconoscimento della prole, nonché la raccolta e trasmissione di informazioni alle generazioni future come reti neurovegetali complesse. Solo l'imprevisto di una selezione naturale troppo spinta e probabilmente la presenza di piante transgeniche provenienti dagli antichi laboratori degli umani potevano ostacolare questo normale sviluppo verso più gloriosi destini.
