Nurses are increasingly accountable for their own practice and require a thorough understanding of their core responsibilities and of the legal and ethical issues which underpin everyday practice in the NHS today.
The Human Rights Act came into effect on 2nd October 2000, giving every citizen a clear statement of their rights and responsibilities. For public authorities - such as the NHS - the Act makes it a legal duty to respect and foster the rights of citizens as set out in the European Convention on Human Rights.
