En av världens största författare, JK Rowling (Joanne Rowling), föddes i England 1965. Hon är känd för sina världspopulära böcker som följer trollkarlen Harry Potter och hans skolgång på Hogwarts skola för häxkonster och trolldom, där han och hans vänner gör allt för att bekämpa de onda krafterna som finns i trollkarlsvärlden. J.K. Rowling är språkligt utbildad på Exeter University och arbetade för Amnesty International under en längre tid. Hon började skriva Harry Potter-böckerna på en tågresa mellan Manchester och London och spenderade sedan fem år på att utvidga trollkarlsuniversumet och handlingen till hennes framtida böcker. Hon flyttade till Portugal där hon födde sin dotter, men efter ett avslutat äktenskap bosatte hon sig i Edinburgh. J.K. Rowling hade svårt att hitta ett förlag som skulle ge ut sin bok om pojken Harry Potter, men 1997 lyckades hon få sin debutroman "Harry Potter och De vises sten" utgiven av barnboksförlaget Bloomsbury Children's Books. Läsare och lyssnare världen över, unga som gamla, omfamnade snabbt böckerna och idag har de sålts i fler exemplar än självaste Bibeln. Serien har också filmats av Warner Brothers med Daniel Radcliffe i huvudrollen som Harry Potter. J.K Rowling har fått många utmärkelser för sina böcker, inklusive Hans Christian Andersens Litteraturpris. Förutom Harry Potter-serien har J.K. Rowling publicerat ett antal böcker för vuxna, bland annat "Gökens rop", som hon skrev under pseudonymen Robert Galbraith. J.K Rowlings böcker är alla klassiker. De har översatts till mer än 60 språk och har sålts i mer än 300 miljoner exemplar i över 200 olika länder.
