Travels in Morocco in two volumes is a travel narrative written by American missionary and explorer James Richardson, and published by his wife after he lost his life at Bornou, in Central Africa. Richardson traveled to Africa as a missionary, but also undertook several other tasks in order to understand the condition of the strange and remarkable races of men who inhabit that part of the world. His goal was to introduce them with a legitimate commerce, with a view to destroy slave trade, and thus pave the way for the spreading of Christianity among a benighted people. Also he used every opportunity of studying the geography of the country, and of gaining an insight into the manners, customs, prejudices, and sentiments of its inhabitants.

James Richardson was born in Fort Worth in 1947 and spent most of his life in Texas. Along the way he raised two daughters, served as a police officer in Irving back when the land between Dallas and Irving was still rolling pastures, had a popular radio show on Wise County's KBOC radio station as 'Country Boy Jim', and made the best tasting donuts on the planet. It wasn't until his death in July 2019 that his daughters came across a set of papers, which proved beyond doubt the man could also write an entertaining story. The short stories and poems, written sometime around 1994, provide a unique insight into the great man we simply called "Dad."Join us in celebrating the life and legacy of James N. Richardson - and experiencing a little bit of the world through his eyes - with One Last Gift.

The first earnest attempt to explore the valley of the upper Yellowstone was made in 1859, by Colonel Raynolds, of the Corps of Engineers. His expedition passed entirely around the Yellowstone basin, but could not penetrate it. Ten years after Colonel Raynoldss unsuccessful attempt to solve the problem of the Yellowstone, a small party under Messrs. Cook and Folsom ascended the river to the lake, and crossed over the divide into the Geyser Basin of the Madison. The general public were indebted for their first knowledge of the marvels of this region to an expedition organized in the summer of 1870 by some of the officials and leading citizens of Montana. In the meantime, a large and thoroughly-organized scientific party, under Dr. F. V. Hayden, U. S. geologist, were making a systematic survey of the region traversed by Colonel Barlow. It is safe to say that no exploring expedition ever had a more interesting field of investigation, or ever studied so many grand, curious and wonderful aspects of nature in so short a time.

"e;The poems are elegies for everything, including myself,"e; writes James Richardson. "e;Beyond this, I cannot pretend to be certain of much about them. I suppose they reflect a self with only a tenuous grip on its surroundings, threatened by their (and its own) continuous vanishing. The poems respond with a helplessness, fitful control, and not a little tenderness. Like the protagonists of The Encyclopedia of Stones: A Pastoral, I am very slow, both unsettled and inspired by the vertiginous strangeness and speed of events. I suspect these melancholy and disembodied poems are attempts to arrest the moment long enough to say farewell, to let things go rather than be subject to their disappearance."e;Originally published in 1977.The Princeton Legacy Library uses the latest print-on-demand technology to again make available previously out-of-print books from the distinguished backlist of Princeton University Press. These editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback and hardcover editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905.
