About the same time as man landed on the moon a new subculture was evolving from the remnants of the mod era, many couldn't empathise with the hippies hedonistic approach and got harder and with a little influence from the their new found West Indian friends and the rude boy in Jamaica the skinhead was born. At this time 007 had hit the charts and Israelites was following behind, a brand new distinctive sound was reaching out to the disillusioned youth, a transformation from the musical style of the flower power sixties. The clothes of choice was quality with Ben Sherman shirts Levi jeans and although originally hob-nail boots Dr Martens soon became the order of the day. The purchasing power of the skinhead helped to elevate reggae music to the fore with classics such as Liquidator and Long Shot Kick De Bucket forced out from the school disco and youth clubs and into high street shops and the pop charts influencing the arm of radio one to eventually play the music on their station. Trojan were the main player but didn't have it all their own way as this full colour edition reveals now including the Pama

My father was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease a few years ago.I visit him often and witness the things he once loved, fishing, painting, woodworking, telling stories and music - all slowly fade away. Telling stories was one of his favorite things to do and I have heard many throughout my lifetime.Through my observation I realized that though other skills are fading, he could still read quite well. I searched for content for him to read, but everything I found was either too lengthy or too complex, and in some cases too simple."Telling Stories". What my father loved to do.It struck me that a book full of stories like the ones he would tell is exactly the kind book he might want to read.I set out to write a book of his own stories, those I had heard from him for years and many he and I experienced ourselves..For the book to work best for him, I knew each story had to be short, two to three pages, with a clear beginning and end.And so "The Missouri Brotherhood" was created. This is a collection of true stories and adventures my father and his older brother experienced in their youth, as well as some stories that are my own adventures as a youth with my father. The stories are all true. Though some may be embellished slightly, either by myself writing the book or by my father telling me the original story, but regardless they all really happened. The names have been changed because I wanted my father to believe this is a book I bought for him at a store, not a book containing his own stories in life. While I wrote this for my own father, I open it up to others who may be in a similar situation as myself and our family, or anyone who would love to hear adventurous stories about growing up in Missouri. Or, perhaps you just want to smile. The Missouri Brotherhood"Growing up in the picturesque countryside of Missouri, Daniel and his older brother Matthew shared a deep love for the great outdoors. Every weekend, they would grab their fishing gear and hunting rifles, setting out on a new adventure, exploring the nearby wood, rivers, and lakes.Despite their age difference, the two brothers shared a strong bond that grew stronger with every adventure they embarked upon. While Matthew was the more adventurous and daring of the two, brimming with ideas, some good, some seemingly outlandish, Daniel was quieter, preferring to observe and ponder things in his own way.Together they tackled challenging terrains, caught many fish, explored new areas and ideas, watched a stump and a wheelbarrow fly into the air, nearly burned up a canoe while fishing, found out that wind can be stronger than you think, learned that dogs will eat uncured skin, and that cows can get pink eye. They were boys, they were brothers, living their lives and adventures in the countryside of Missouri. They had an unbreakable bond, and it remains to this day..."

PUBLISHER NOTE:The content was previously published as two books Ska Rock Steady Quiz Book 1960 - 1968 Reggae Quiz Book 1968 -1972. At last a comprehensive quiz on the ska rock steady and reggae era concentrating on the embryonic Jamaican music years of 1960-1972 initiated with the up tempo beat of ska drawing on the musical elements of Caribbean mento, calypso, American jazz and rhythm and blues circa 1960. During 1966 the beat slowed to the unhurried harmonious rock steady rhythm before entering a transitional phase to reggae in 1968. The influence of rock steady on reggae should never be underestimated but it is sometimes a forgotten era spanning less than two years as it did flanked between ska and reggae. The questions are set out in two sections with the first multiple choice, the next Tougher Than Tough comes without prompts, nevertheless with over one thousand one hundred varied challenges the book is more than just a simple trivia of questions and answers, it reveals so much more about the world of ska, rock steady and reggae.

"John Bailey's informative and well-researched book, Skye, provides an insight into the magical places to explore and savour on the Isle of Skye" Hugh MacLeod of MacLeod. This is an essential companion for both visitors and locals. Skye is a beautiful island of cliff-rimmed promontories, tranquil sea lochs, rolling moorland and majestic mountains. Add to the breathtaking scenery a brutal and sometimes-bloody history, a land where myths and legends are plentiful, and you have a mysterious, romantic land that, once visited, will remain in your heart forever. Unexpectedly larger than most assume, Skye boasts over 360 miles of diverse, awe-inspiring coastline. The book takes a journey of discovery around this enchanting isle, visiting many of the most surreal landscapes to be found anywhere in the British Isles. Included are historical sites such as Dunvegan Castle, the oldest continually inhabited castle in Britain. Details are noted of the islands past history, the 18th and 19th centuries feature as the most turbulent. Most, if not all, have heard of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his association to Skye; few know how he was pursued by government forces but never betrayed by the Highlanders. For the first-time visitor the book will be invaluable, the sheer diversity of the landscape and historical locations can provide one with a quandary of where to visit. Most come for a week, but I would recommend staying a wee while longer to set aside time to fully appreciate this beautiful isle off the north-west coast of Scotland. The new book will provide you with an excellent summation before you arrive, it will be a precious companion while you are here and a lasting reminder of the beautiful isle when you have departed, almost certain with a yearning to return one day.
