The stories in this book are primarily about people-the people of the shamba (small farm). One of my insights after working for one of the biggest multinational companies and dabbling in a small-scale farming hobby is that every experience we go through in life, whether pleasant or unpleasant, is what gives life its flavor.Indeed, some of the unpleasant experiences add more spice to life. In many cases, having a nice laugh about something is the magic trick. Laughter is indeed the best medicine for the soul.

In the modern, highly competitive world, doing well in any competition is not enough. Being number one is what counts. This book traces the lives of five colorful individuals. They are winners in their unique ways from the early stages of their lives. We experience, intimately, the twists and turns that occur as they enter early adulthood and get embroiled in a contest anchored in the pursuit of business success and love. At some point, each character realizes that things can get highly complex, emotionally draining, and even dangerous when love is in the mix. The outcome of their respective pursuits to be "number one" is astounding. Indeed, the way the story ends offers readers tremendous food for thought.

Out of the more than seven billion people who inhabit the earth, no two are exactly the same. Even tweens have differences. Every individual has been bestowed by nature unique attributes. And yet, the behavior of human beings can be reduced to a few archetypes. At the heart of the matter, each human being is one single entity comprised of a mind and a physical body, a mind that yearns for happiness, and a body that longs for sustenance. And it is the interplay of these two needs that creates the different archetypes of humans. This book explores a few of the archetypes. It discusses how the ideas around archetypes converge to offer a new perspective on fundamental questions that existentialists have been grappling with for ages.
