When your company offers you a promotion on the condition you move a thousand miles from your family, do you? What if that thousand miles is to the snowy Northeast? That's the situation I faced in 2014: get ahead in my career by moving, knowing my family absolutely wasn't going to join me. Go an adventure and, for the first time in my career, have a chance to move beyond cubicle-dwelling drone life, to stop being just the white-collar ditch digger, to have an actual opportunity. I took the chance, making the most of the opportunity, and while the career move didn't pan out into anything great, it gave me a chance to learn more about who I am than is healthy.

The acrid air was thick with smoke as she picked her way over the dead and dying. Her breathing was labored, punctuated with hacking coughs and piercing pain. The smell of death and charred flesh permeated her senses. Missiles, or, as they referred to them, "Angels of Death," exploded in the distance. She squinted through the mist, focusing on the towers, and safety, just ahead. She turned and yelled out to the person behind her, "Another hundred yards and we'll be safe." She lost her footing and tripped. Her cheekbone crashed hard into the ground, leaving the taste of warm blood in her mouth. Thus begins the tale of Mya Seward. Employed as a researcher working for the government, she makes a remarkable discovery. Embedded within the text of the Torah is an encrypted computer program written thousands of years ago. Over the coming weeks, she unlocks the fantastic secrets of this encrypted code, known as 'The Prophecies'. In it, she and her small band of researchers, discover the existence of a benevolent master race, known as the IAM, that nurtured early man to ensure his survival. But the IAM have a dark side as well. But they have a dark side as well... AND NOW THEY'VE COME BACK TO COLLECT!

The top half of the body of the young man lay crushed beneath that of a horse. The old Viking's eye was caught by the gold ring on a finger of the dead body - obviously a person of some consequence. Stooping to take a closer look, he noticed the surcoat worn over the chain mail - expensive material, some sort of heraldic device thereon. Puzzled by the swollen abdomen, his first thought - instantly rejected - was of bloating, but these people had just died...Olaf Svensen had seen too much violence and grief in a long and eventful life to be overly sentimental, but he did feel a pang of sorrow. Without thinking he put his hand down almost as a sort of blessing, upon the swollen belly.Only to jump back, alarmed. For at his touch, he had distinctly felt a strong kick - from the baby inside. Seemingly impossible, this was a pregnant woman; still alive, though barely.Although fatally crushed by the body of the horse, Olaf had felt for and detected a faint pulse.Taking out his knife, Olaf prepared to do the merciful thing - just plunge his blade deep into the woman. Instead he found himself carefully cutting into her belly. quickly lifting out the small, dark looking infant, covered in the whitish birth vernix. He stared at this tiny creature, it's eyes squeezed tight against the sudden exposure to light. With this dramatic birth begins the remarkable life of Jonas Svensen, wandering through medieval Europe, fighting battles of his own and on behalf of others. A tale of heroes and dastardly deeds, of brutal violence and the grace of good people, told with humour and an eye to historical accuracy.
