Karl Theodor Helfferich (1872-1924), deutscher Wirtschaftswissenschaftler, Bankier und Politiker, unternahm mit dem hier vorliegenden Werk den Versuch, eine zusammenfassende Darstellung der Entwicklung des Geldwesen und seiner volkswirtschaftlichen Verfasstheit zu geben. Dies handelt er folgenden Hauptkapiteln ab: "Die Entwicklungsgeschichte des Geldes und der Geldsysteme", "Die Gestaltung der Edelmetall- und Währungsverhältnisse seit der Entdeckung Amerikas", "Das Geld in der Wirtschaftsordnung", "Das Geld in der Rechtsordnung", "Die Geldverfassung" und "Geldbedarf, Geldversorgung und Geldwert". Nachdruck der sechsten, neubearbeiteten Auflage aus dem Jahr 1923.
