The Tree was born of unusual and tragic circumstances in the pre-Columbian prairie that would become Nebraska. As a young tree, it was fortunate that it was not the victim of a tornado or other weather denizens. Once The Tree was a hundred years old, it was able to take the arrows of young Pawnee honing their skills as well as being part of their festivals. Slaves fleeing the South looked for the bent branch on The Tree to point them correctly onto the North. But The Tree valued above all the ones that came to talk to it, finding its shade and shelter a haven for their thoughts and even a spoken word or two.The Tree still grows today, inviting others to come to its haven.

Jen's headaches were becoming unbearable. They hit out of the blue and lasted for hours. Then she met a psychiatrist who hypnotized her, and found that a variety of people from various periods in time who waiting to talk to her. And to ask favors of her that she is sure she couldn't possibly fulfill. So, the headaches continued.

Emily was not at all happy that she had to move to New Hampshire from Indianapolis. However, along with her twin brother, Jiggs, she made new friends, and they got into something she never expected. She found a very old envelope with a poem in it that promised that she, Jiggs, and their friends, Pete and Repete, would be richly rewarded if they followed the clues and the direction to keep their actions a secret. The clues led them on a chase through the town and through time.
