In 1984 the Press celebrated four hundred years of continuous printing and publishing. This anniversary history, now published in paperback, provides a readable introduction, from late medieval times to the complex modern international printing and publishing house.

This is a short, illustrated account of the world's oldest publishing house. It emphasises the constitutional basis of the Press (an essential part of its parent university), highlights key moments of crisis and change, and the wide range of the Press's recent achievements and its current activities.
