Jaclyn Ramsey returns to the small town of Upland, Arizona to exact retribution on her beautiful double-crossing partner, Sherri Denny, but only after she gets her hands on her share of their ill-gotten money. Jaclyn has also sworn vengeance by way of death against the Chief of Police of Upland, the man who turned Sherri against her. Town Marshal John Buckner orders his deputy Gilbert Chávez to track Jaclyn down. Sherri becomes involved with Justin Putnam, a pro pool player in town to play in a documentary about the legendary J.C. Forkner that is being filmed at his Last Chance saloon. Rosie River, an excellent pool player in her own right, also in Upland to locate Jaclyn and Sherri, takes up with the women-sort of. Mayhem pursues, and Upland police officers try to solve a murder.

With most of the police force of Upland, Arizona out of town, conman Burdick and his gang--Janet, his Navajo girlfriend; Rubin, a burglar 'extraordinaire' who lives with his mother; Carlos, a car thief; Glover, a loner living off government aid; Doc, retired from Northern Arizona University and bored--bungle their way to a possible two-hundred-thousand-dollar cash booty hidden in a very strange place. They set up camp in a dilapidated barn where they confront and contend with Obama (a very large rooster and his hens (the Dixie Chicks).

Along with drugs and guns, Juan Hernandez smuggles hundreds of illegal immigrants into the US with delusions of taking back the southwest for Mexico, and of course for himself. Juan hires Private Investigator/Bounty Hunter (and novice pool player) Richard "Big Dick" Bigg to find and bring back (dead or alive) his second kidnapped wife. Juan's first wife was kidnapped four years earlier and died in a house that exploded as the FBI closed in.Blood spills and sparks fly when Dick teams up with ex-FBI agent Allison "Ali" Mayes as they home in on the conspirators and dole out Big Dick's brand of justice.

Holly Forkner disappears. Upland, Arizona Chief of Police Troy Forkner, Holly's husband, scours the wilderness of northern Arizona, first by air then on the ground, looking for her. Officer Nina Miller believes the perpetrator had an accomplice who may be hiding Holly nearby. Nina's partner, Rookie Officer Pike Tso, a Navajo Indian, believes Navajo spirits may have abducted Holly. Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Justman takes advantage of the situation and implicates a loner Indian in Holly's disappearance. Meanwhile, J C Forkner, Troy's brother, is involved in another pool game wagering something substantial.

Mayhem pursues J.C., an aging and washed-up pool player, who steals cash from an unprofessional, sexual deviant, hit man named Black Berry. He wants it back. The money, however, belongs to Juan Hernandez and the Mexican Cartel. They want it back.With Black Berry hot on their heels, J.C. and his thirteen-year-old pool playing prodigy son, Kid, head for the small town of Upland, Arizona.Back with family and friends, J.C. soon realizes that the important things in life are exactly that: family and friends.The stakes and outcome of a nine-ball game in the back room of a run down saloon called the Last Chance turns the town into a circus, and brings J.C. full circle to where it all began for him.
