    यह सर्व विदित है कि भारतीय संस्कृति विश्व की सबसे प्राचीन सनातन संस्कृति है।इसके विभिन्न तत्वों को आज पूरे विश्व में स्वीकार किया जा रहा है। भारतीय सनातन संस्कृति के अद्वितीय महत्व के कारण ही इसे विश्व पटल पर गुरु की उपाधि से सम्मानित किया गया है। भारतीय सनातन संस्कृति में व्यक्ति के संपूर्ण जीवन में तीर्थयात्रा का विशेष वर्णन है और इसी उद्देश्य को ध्यान में रखकर समय-समय पर अनेक मंदिरों, जलाशयों, घाटों आदि का निर्माण किया गया है।वैदिक काल, रामायण, महाभारत काल से लेकर पौराणिक काल तक सतयुग, त्रेतायुग और द्वापरयुग था। जिसे अवतार युग भी कहा जाता है। अवतार युग में देवताओं ने अवतार लेकर पृथ्वी पर अनेक अच्छे आदर्श प्रस्तुत किये। इन देवांश पुरुषों की जन्मस्थली और कर्मस्थली को स्वत ही तीर्थ कहा गया क्योंकि ऋषि मुनि की तपस्या के फलस्वरूप ये पवित्र हो गये।कालान्तर में तत्कालीन राजाओं द्वारा देवांश की कर्मभूमि एवं जन्मस्थली पर अनेक मन्दिरों, जलाशयों, कुओं, बावड़ियों, घाटों आदि का निर्माण कराया गया। जिसका एक उद्देश्य भारतीय संस्कृति की रक्षा करना था जिसे विदेशी आक्रमणकारियों ने नष्ट करने की पूरी कोशिश की और दूसरा उद्देश्य भारतीय अर्थव्यवस्था को ऊपर उठाना था। क्योंकि भारत अपने इतिहास और संस्कृति के लिए विश्व पटल पर प्रसिद्ध है, इसलिए समय के साथ भारत दुनिया के अन्य देशों के लिए एक रहस्य बन गया। यहां के तीर्थस्थलों में ऐसी कई कहानियां चित्रित और वर्णित हैं जो आज के वैज्ञानिक युग में उत्पन्न होने वाली समस्याओं का समाधान प्रस्तुत करती हैं। इस पुस्तक में भारतीय संस्कृति एवं भारतीय तीर्थों से संबंधित अनेक जिज्ञासाओं का समाधान देने का प्रयास किया गया है।
