When the cargo ship Chapelon is ordered to sail from her home port of Dunkirk just two days before Christmas, her crew is less than pleased. Not only were their hopes of celebrating with their loved ones wrecked, they also knew they were about to sail into rough and turbulent seas.In a storm of unprecedented fury that is encountered off the north-east coast of England, the ship experiences an engine room explosion that leaves her disabled and at the mercy of the furious wind blowing her towards the shore. Efforts to find a tug to assist Chapelon prove to be fruitless and a life boat and helicopter that are dispatched to aid the distressed ship and rescue her crew themselves become overwhelmed in the atrocious conditions being experienced.When Chapelon's grounding becomes an obvious and imminent certainty, her crew's very survival becomes reliant upon a local coastguard coming up with a last-ditch plan.

Modeling and prediction of oceanographic phenomena and climate is based on the integration of dynamic equations. The Equations of Oceanic Motions derives and systematically classifies the most common dynamic equations used in physical oceanography, from large-scale thermohaline circulations to those governing small scale motions and turbulence. After establishing the basic dynamical equations that describe all oceanic motions, Muller then derives approximate equations, emphasizing the assumptions made and physical processes eliminated. He distinguishes between geometric, thermodynamic and dynamic approximations and between the acoustic, gravity, vortical and temperature-salinity modes of motion. Basic concepts and formulae of equilibrium thermodynamics, vector and tensor calculus, curvilinear coordinate systems, and the kinematics of fluid motion and wave propagation are covered in appendices. Inhaltsangabe:Gang der Untersuchung: Die vorliegende Arbeit beschäftigt sich mit dem Thema ?Schwarzarbeit in Planwirtschaften am Beispiel der UdSSR?. Bei der Bearbeitung wird so vorgegangen, daß zuerst der Begriff der Planwirtschaft definiert wird. Es folgt eine Darstellung der philosophischen Grundlagen und der historischen Entwicklung der Planwirtschaft in der Sowjetunion. Dies erscheint sinnvoll, da die systemimmanenten Schwächen der Planwirtschaft und deren Folgen erst vor dem Hintergrund der Entstehung dieses Wirtschaftssystems in der UdSSR verständlich werden. Anschließend wird auf die Funktionsweise der Planwirtschaft und daraus ableitbare Probleme eingegangen. Im zweiten Teil der Arbeit werden nach der Definition des Begriffs der Schattenwirtschaft mögliche Erscheinungsformen und Ursachen schattenwirtschaftlicher Aktivitäten in Planwirtschaften erörtert. Dann erfolgt nach begrifflichen Abgrenzungen und der Darstellung von Methoden zur Quantifizierung der Schwarzarbeit eine ökonomische und soziologische Untersuchung des ?aba?nicestvo, einer Ausprägung staatlich nicht geplanter Arbeit in der Sowjetunion. Das letzte Kapitel schließlich beschäftigt sich mit Modellen zur planwirtschaftlichen Schwarzarbeit und Untergrundwirtschaft. Es wird versucht, die Ergebnisse der Arbeit formal abzubilden und Prognosen über die weitere Entwicklung der Planwirtschaft abzuleiten. Allgemein ist anzumerken, daß sich die Aussagen dieser Arbeit auf die typischen Ausprägungen des wirtschaftlichen und politischen Systems der Sowjetunion beziehen, die bis zu den revolutionären Veränderungen der letzten Zeit gegeben waren.
