  • - REJOICE! BE GLAD! (Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow)

    Coronavirus began in China in 2019. 2020 will be remembered in every nation of the world, each battling the pandemic, even into 2021. "THIS IS STILL THE DAY THE LORD HAS MADE" is based on Psalm 118:24. The first and the last verse of the psalm are as apropos, "Give thanks to the Lord" (NIV) Thanksgiving is my theme throughout. The second of two books (similar title), this book July - December; the first, January - June. I've added a little fun by including numerous National Days of the Year, hopefully entertaining? Politics intrudes, 2020 being an election year. I show my colors. Not everyone will agree with me! Charles de Gaulle said, "Politics is too serious a matter to be left to the politicians." Lincoln: "Be sure to put your feet in the right place, then stand firm." And Jefferson: "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government for wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them." Amen to each! Every day, rejoice and be glad! My writing career began in 2010 after my wife succumbed to breast cancer and my forty-five years in Christian education. Barbara and I had three beautiful kids and now ten wonderful grandkids. Reading, writing, biking, gardening, and birding allow me to enjoy fresh air and sunshine every day. Worship often inspires my writing. If an idea for a book or just a title, I get up, jot a note, and develop that thought in the morning. Coronavirus prompted me to write when "Stay Home, Keep Your distance, and Don't Gather" was the rule. These two books are my seventh and eighth publications. I plan many more. God is good! His love endures!

    A question about your school days, elementary, high school, and college: Good times? Bad times? A mix of both?Small schools? Large schools? Did size matter? What made your favorite(s) special?"e;Teach Me Something, Mister"e; is a follow-up to "e;Throw Me Something, Mister"e; but quite different. "e;Throw Me..."e; is fiction. "e;Teach Me..."e; is real! The stories were sent to the author from teachers and friends recalling their school life. They are mostly fun; regret and sadness in a few. It's not all good, no matter how much we would like it to be. The stories are about teachers, students and school secretaries, cooks and custodians, parents and principals. They will remind you of your school days, and hopefully prompt a few thanksgivings. The author welcomes your shared stories and feedback. Maybe you should write your own school stories, for your family to remember and cherish?The young mother asked her five-year-old "e;What did you learn in school today?"e; The kid replied, "e;I guess not enough. Miss Banks said she'd see me again tomorrow."e;

    He played imaginary name games while on the road and sometimes with other people if their name fit the schtick. Peculiar in other ways (never used ice, only drank Dr. Pepper), he was as quiet and ordinary as the neighbor next door. Yet he was a serial killer. Father, Forgive Me, for I Have Sinned has a few subthemes: addiction, confession and absolution, and sexual abuse in the church. Any of the five main male characters could be the killer, one who strangles young ladies, mostly in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Bible verses from the Psalms left at or near the scene of each murder offered few leads as to the perp or his motive. Theologians in New Orleans gave their opinions but were as stumped as law enforcement, unable to clearly profile the man. When local and regional police got close to identifying and apprehending him, the Gulf South Strangler moved to Carolina and Tennessee with the string of deaths following. Some serial killers are never found. Unlike the infamous serial killers of history, these deaths included no sexual or other physical abuse of the body. Funny how the simplest of rude childhood behaviors could change a man into a monster.
