  • - Chapters 16-25: Volume 5 of Heavenly Citizens in Earthly Shoes, An Exposition of the Scriptures for Disciples and Young Christians
    av Randy Green
    167

The "Heavenly Citizens" series serves as a tool to help the Christian understand not only what the Bible teaches us, but also how to study the Bible. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so they can feed themselves. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity."Deuteronomy" is the fifth volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. In this book Moses expounded the Law of Moses (Torah) a second time, and for a very good reason. The older generation wandered the wilderness for forty years until they all died! The younger generation then entered the Promised Land and conquered it, but not before they were presented with God's Law for ruling them while they lived in that land. We have the pleasure to learn what the Law of Moses meant to the Israelites (the context). From that context we draw principles behind the Law, and then we apply those principles to Christian living today. That is the approach for "Deuteronomy" and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. We teach the student the meaning of Scripture and we teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. We do this in two ways: we provide a few rules by which to govern our Bible study, and we demonstrate by example how to study the Bible. Experience is an outstanding teacher. We practice in our books the rules for Bible study. By walking through the Bible with us, the reader experiences firsthand what our method of study is like.We believe the student will come out of our studies with both an understanding of the Bible and the ability to truthfully understand the Bible on his/her own. The path lies before you. Walk through the gate and join the journey with us! And may the blessings of the Lord Jesus Christ be yours in abundance.

Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so they can feed themselves. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity."Leviticus" is the third volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. In this book Moses ordained and installed the priests into office as the Lord's ministers for the Israelites. The priests were instructed in the proper procedure for presenting to the Lord each type of offering on the bronze altar. The priests also learned how to diagnose leprosy and all types of ritual uncleanness, and to serve as the Lord's physicians in treating those Israelites who suffered any such cases. Additionally the Lord presented the Israelites with an annual calendar of holidays. All of this teaching served as miniature picture stories of hidden spiritual truth. We have the pleasure to study those picture stories (the context). From that context we draw out the principles of hidden spiritual truth, and then we apply those principles to Christian living today. That is the approach for "Leviticus" and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. We teach the student the meaning of Scripture and we teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching him how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so he can feed himself. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity."Acts" is the eighth volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. Acts begins with Messiah Jesus' command to His disciples to stay in Jerusalem until they were baptized with the Holy Spirit. Then Jesus ascended into heaven. Ten days later Pentecost occurred and... Well, that information is available in the exposition we provide in our four volume set on the "Book of Acts".What is the Church? What was it created to be? What role did Peter and Paul have in this? What is the baptism of the Holy Spirit? What is "speaking in tongues" and does it still hold relevance today? Where is Jesus, and will we ever see Him again? Those great questions, and many more, are answered inside the covers of our four volume set on the "Book of Acts". You mustn't miss out on the wholesome spiritual nourishment! Before we exit through the back cover, we will travel throughout the Promised Land. Then we will turn north and enter Syria, sail to Cyprus and Asia Minor, cross into Europe and visit Greece, and even end up in Rome, Italy. Wow! What travel agency can top that? The approach for "Acts" and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. We also teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. We do this in two ways: we provide a few rules by which to govern our Bible study, and we demonstrate by example how to study the Bible. Experience is an outstanding teacher. The Apostle Paul begins with a greeting from God to the churches in in the Roman province of Galatia, located in central Asia Minor (modern Turkey). Then he charges right into the fray, outraged that heresy has reared its ugly head in the churches of God! And this, even after this issue had already been resolved by the Jerusalem Council. Yet this didn't stop some Pharisaic believers in Jesus setting forth from the Jerusalem Church, to contradict what the Church had already voted into disrepute. What heresies were there in the churches of Galatia? Ah, that is the subject of our book on this letter to the Galatians. This heresy was not at all like that in the Church of Corinth, mind you. Not at all. In Corinth pagan Gentile culture and human wisdom were promoted, alongside belief in Jesus. This was quite typical of pagan culture and religion, so no one seemed to recognize its utter inconsistency with the New Testament Covenant of Grace.Unlike the Gentilizer heresy (our name for the heresy in Corinth), the churches of Galatia went hog wild for the Judaizer heresy (again, our name for this heresy). Pharisees in the Jerusalem Church thought that Torah (aka the Law of Moses) was still in effect under the Covenant of Grace. They provoked a fight in the Church of Antioch, Syria, which led to the Jerusalem Council where the heretics were discredited. Not to be undone, however, these Judaizers took their heresy to Galatia.Oh, but we wouldn't want to give the story away. For a thorough understanding of these issues, we invite you to come inside and join the Bible class with us. We plan to delve into each and every detail and get to the bottom of it. After all, we wouldn't want to go through the same mess in our church today, would we?The approach for "Galatians", and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series, is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching him how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so he can feed himself. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity."Titus & Philemon" is the twenty-first volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. The Apostle Paul begins his letter to Titus by presenting his credentials: he is a bond-servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ. Paul's ministry is for the faith of those chosen of God. Titus is Paul's true child in a common faith. Paul made Titus the chief pastor of the Churches of Crete, through his authority as an apostle of King Jesus. Crete is an island due south of the Aegean Sea, which is the sea between Greece and Turkey.Paul emphasizes to Titus the necessity to preach and teach the Word of God, and to be sure to avoid stirring man's words into the message. The danger from adding man's words to God's Word makes it essential for every pastor to be sure he preaches only God's Word. The Bible is must reading multiple times for every pastor, before he is allowed to step foot in a pulpit.Microwave Bible might be quick, but it can never nourish a growing boy into a spiritual man of God. So for a thorough understanding of these issues, we invite you to come inside and join the Bible class with us. We plan to delve into each and every detail and get to the bottom of it. After all, we do want our church today to be spiritually vibrant and fecund, don't we? What better way to accomplish this, than to enjoy a thorough study of the Apostle Paul's "Letter to Titus".Paul's "Letter to Philemon" is a personal letter to a church leader in Colosse. Paul never met Philemon, nor had he visited Colosse at the time of writing this letter. While under house arrest in Rome and waiting to plead his case before Emperor Nero, Paul was visited by a slave named Onesimus, whose master was Philemon. Paul led Onesimus to Jesus for salvation and then reared him to spiritual maturity. Onesimus on his part ministered to Paul in his confinement. In due time Onesimus came to realize that breaking the law was not being a good witness for Jesus. With a letter of recommendation from the Apostle Paul to Master Philemon, Slave Onesimus returned to Colosse to serve his master again. How does this jibe with contemporary culture which sees racism here, there, and everywhere? Come and see. Join our study with us.The approach for "Titus & Philemon", and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series, is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. We also teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity."Genesis Book I: Chapters 1-20" is the first book of Volume I in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. In the Book of Genesis we have the fallacies of evolution debunked, the origins of the world and mankind and sin revealed, and the first case of fratricide and attempted deicide narrated. The families of man are exposed as numbering two, and their development from creation to circa 1500 BC is narrated. The Tower of Babel, and the Lord's call of Abraham and establishment of the Hebrew people are studied in Book I. In "Book II: Chapters 21-36" we continue Genesis by examining the accounts of Isaac vs. Ishmael, and that of Jacob vs. Esau. In "Book III: Chapters 37-50" the sibling rivalry of Joseph and his eleven brothers is narrated, and the eventual move from Canaan to Egypt to live occurs. We have the pleasure to learn about the Lord's solution for sin in the world (the context). From this context we draw principles behind the Lord's solution, and then we apply those principles to Christian living today. This is the approach for "Genesis" and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. We teach the student the meaning of Scripture and we teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. The "Heavenly Citizens" series serves as a tool to help the Christian understand not only what the Bible teaches us, but also how to study the Bible. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching him how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so he can feed himself. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity."Matthew" is the seventh volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. Matthew, a Jew, was hated as a tax collector for the Roman imperialists. This didn't stop Messiah Jesus from calling Matthew to be one of His disciples and even an apostle! Jesus was good at doing unconventional things like that. In this book we make note of a good many suchlike surprises on Jesus' part. Did you know that Jesus' ancestors included some unsavory sorts? Did you know that the religious bigwigs of Jesus' day considered Him to be of questionable character?Don't miss out on those details and much more. Enter through the front book cover and begin your trek through 1st Century Israel. Roman soldiers line the roads and avenues, fig trees are plentiful, and a gorgeous view of the Sea of Galilee and numerous fishermen make for a relaxing view. Jesus is a fantastic story teller. We know His stories as "parables", and He has not a few to tell in this book. Oh, and interpreting them is exciting too! Before we exit through the back cover though, we will have to pass a hill known as "The Skull" and mourn over three crosses and the outrageous injustice done there. Not to fret though. Three days later a sealed tomb is unsealed, only to discover that a dead body is no longer in it. Truth be told, the dead body is no longer dead! Wow!The approach for "Matthew" and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. We also teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. We do this in two ways: we provide a few rules by which to govern our Bible study, and we demonstrate by example how to study the Bible. Experience is an outstanding teacher; so we practice the rules for Bible study in our books.

Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity."Numbers" is the fourth volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. This book records the numbering of the Israelites prior to their departure from Mt. Sinai, where they had spent just over one year. The Israelites were numbered by tribes as part of the military draft! The tribe of Levi was also numbered, but separately because they were to serve as the tabernacle servants to their kin the priests. The twelve tribes were organized into four divisions of three per camp, with each camp being organized into an army and the three armies of each camp forming a division. Each division guarded one of the four sides of Israel's camp during idle times, and they marched in military array during the not so idle times. The Shekinah cloud of Yahweh's presence went in front and led the Israelites during their wilderness journeys.Alas, but the Israelites had nothing on all other sinful men. They rebelled quite regularly against the Lord and His leaders Moses and Aaron. Even Moses' brother Aaron and sister Miriam rebelled against Moses! If that were not enough, Moses' and Aaron's own kin, the tribe of Levi, rebelled against the both of them! Yikes! This book should be renamed "Tide of Rebellion"! Come on in and read a spell and learn all about it for yourself. All of this teaching served as miniature picture stories of hidden spiritual truth. We have the pleasure to study those picture stories (the context). From that context we draw out the principles of hidden spiritual truth, and then we apply the principles to Christian living today. This is the approach for "Numbers" and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. The sky is falling! No, Chicken Little isn't back in vogue. But the end times are upon us. Has your attention been drawn to such themes as Armageddon, the Apocalypse, antichrist, the Rapture, and other such events? TV and movies are including them in ever-increasing measure. The same thing happened at the time of Jesus' birth circa 7 B.C. When the time draws near for Biblical prophecies to be fulfilled, God gets folks interested in them. What does that tell us about today? The "Heavenly Citizens" series serves as a tool to help the Christian understand not only what the Bible teaches us, but also how to study the Bible. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching him how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so he can feed himself. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity."Revelation" is the eleventh volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series. The Apostle John was exiled by the Roman emperor to the island of Patmos, in the Aegean Sea off modern Turkey. In the solitude he had there, he was visited by Messiah Jesus. The Lord gave him a vision of Himself glorified, a vision even more glorious than what John witnessed on the Mount of Transfiguration. Jesus followed that with a portrayal of the entire Church Age, and then gave a vivid account of the end times. It is customary for folks today to flock to end-times stories. We are fascinated by what we don't know, and we want to get the latest scoop on the unknown, so that we can be one up on everyone else. But that is not the purpose for which God reveals the future to us, as we can ascertain by a quick reading of Deuteronomy 29:29.In keeping with God's purpose, we spend our time in studying "Revelation" by limiting the guess work, which serves only to tickle our fancy, and in its place substitute a practical application of the text to our lives for today. Why did Messiah Jesus reveal these events to the Apostle John? What are we to learn from this revelation, that will help us to live each day like God calls us to live?Yes, this revelation is long and full of exciting details, so we wouldn't dream of leaving any of that out. Truth be told, we spend considerable time on each and every verse in the "Book of Revelation". But if we leave it at that, then we have failed God and ourselves. Messiah Jesus didn't die so that we can be smart and intellectual! He died so that we might have new life, His life in us. That is our guiding principle in studying the "Book of Revelation", viz., how to make better disciples for our Lord. The approach for "Revelation", and for every volume in the "Heavenly Citizens" series, is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so they can feed themselves. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity. "Genesis Book I: Chapters 21-20" is the first book of Volume I in the "Heavenly Citizens". The Apostle Paul begins with a greeting from God to the Church in Corinth. Then he jumps right into the fray, for a fray it is in that church. Serious church discipline is unavoidable, if this local church is to keep its standing as one of the Lord's lampstands in the Church. What would you think, should you visit a local church one Sunday morning, and everyone there was making strange noises all at the same time? Most of us would likely head for the hills pronto! Sadly, but that was a problem in the Church of Corinth. Also, they claimed to believe the Gospel, but they didn't believe in a physical, bodily resurrection of the dead. What do they think happened to Jesus on a Sunday morn circa 27 A.D.?And then there was the situation during the celebration of the Lord's Supper... But perhaps I should stop at this point. There are far too many weird doings and cockamamie doctrines going on in the Church of Corinth. Permit me, please, to take the best approach and invite you into our Bible study to discover these situations with us. We plan to delve into them and get to the bottom of it. The priests were instructed in the proper procedure for presenting to the Lord each type of offering on the bronze altar. The priests also learned how to diagnose leprosy and all types of ritual uncleanness, and to serve as the Lord's physicians in treating those Israelites who suffered any such cases. What is the baptism of the Holy Spirit? What is "speaking in tongues" and does it still hold relevance today? Where is Jesus, and will we ever see Him again? The Heavenly Citizens series serves as a tool to help the Christian understand not only what the Bible teaches us, but also how to study the Bible. Explaining what the Bible teaches is like giving someone a fish to eat. Teaching him how to study the Bible is like teaching someone how to fish so he can feed himself. Both approaches are essential to developing spiritual maturity. 2 Peter is the twenty-fourth volume in the Heavenly Citizens series. Apostle Peter begins with a full-length presentation for the stages of sanctification (aka the lifelong process of the believer spiritually maturing into the image of Jesus). By way of his credentials as an authority to teach on this subject, Brother Peter relays the account of being on the Mount of Transfiguration with Messiah Jesus. Additionally, Peter teaches that, as an apostle personally chosen by King Jesus, what he teaches is the inspired Word of God. The Holy Spirit inspires the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit teaches the Word of God to believers, so that they increasingly become sanctified. The Apostle Peter next warns the believers of the dangers which face them, should they ignore their sanctification. In Old Testament days the nation of Israel was plagued with false prophets, who flourished in Israel because of a lack of a Scriptural foundation. So too, warns Peter, that believers in the Church will be plagued with false teachers, who will flourish because believers don't feed on the Word of God daily. Then Brother Peter reminds them of God's judgments on both angels and mankind, to destroy sinful angels and mankind from totally taking over heaven and earth. Peter names three such judgments: Satan's rebellion against God in heaven, Noah's Flood, and Sodom & Gomorrah. From there the Apostle Peter goes on to reveal how the day of the Lord will be upon them at any moment, followed by a new heaven and earth. With this in view, Brother Peter instructs the believers on how they are to live on earth, so as to avoid God's judgment on themselves. They are to be holy, even as Christ Jesus is holy. To help achieve their sanctification, they should focus on their heavenly citizenship and live like they belong there. The approach for 2 Peter, and for every volume in the Heavenly Citizens series, is to teach the student the meaning of Scripture. We also teach him or her how to study the Bible on his/her own. We do this in two ways: we provide a few rules by which to govern our Bible study, and we demonstrate by example how to study the Bible. Experience is an outstanding teacher. In our books we put into practice the rules for Bible study. By walking through the Bible with us, the reader experiences firsthand what our method of study is like.
