Unter den Autoren des 17. Jahrhunderts gehort Andreas Gryphius zweifellos zu den am besten erforschten. Seit der groen Konjunktur der Barockforschung in den 1960er und 70er Jahren hat sich monographisch und in Aufsatzen eine facettenreiche Forschungslandschaft entwickelt. Die Anstrengung einer umfassenden Gesamtdarstellung zu Leben und Werk ist hingegen nicht mehr unternommen worden. Strukturgebend ist die Kombination von Textzentriertheit und systematischer Verstrebung: Komplementar zu den Lekturen einzelner Werke oder Werkgruppen eroffnet das umfangreiche alphabetisch organisierte Kapitel Systematische Aspekte in zwolf Eintragen Perspektiven zu poetologischen Konzepten und historischen Rahmenbedingungen, wie sie fur Gryphius' Schreiben mageblich sind. Gegenuber der alteren Forschungstradition, sich auf wenige kanonische Sonette, Trauer- und Lustspiele zu konzentrieren, erweitern Artikel zu den Leichabdankungen, Oden, Ubersetzungen und Bearbeitungen das Referenzcorpus betrachtlich. Dabei zeigt sich: auch diesen Texten ist eine eigene Asthetik zuzutrauen, die sich gegenuber geschlossenen Deutungssystemen als durchaus widerstandig erweist.

This book offers a compelling and persuasive framework for understanding the German constitutional system.
