The aim of the Expositions is to present new and important developments in pure and applied mathematics. Well established in the community over more than two decades, the series offers a large library of mathematical works, including several important classics. The volumes supply thorough and detailed expositions of the methods and ideas essential to the topics in question. In addition, they convey their relationships to other parts of mathematics. The series is addressed to advanced readers interested in a thorough study of the subject. Editorial Board Lev Birbrair, Universidade Federal do Ceara, Fortaleza, BrasilWalter D. Providing exact solutions of more than 200 nonlinear equations and models, this book begins with classical as well as more recent examples of interesting solutions on linear invariant subspaces for nonlinear operators. In the remainder of the book, the authors develop several techniques for constructing exact solutions that describe singularity behavior for various nonlinear PDEs, including gas dynamics models, free-boundary problems, Green-Naghdi equations, and quasilinear pseudo-parabolic (magma) equations. Using exact solutions, they describe the evolution properties related to singularity blow-up or extinction phenomena, finite interface propagation and regularity, and the oscillatory, changing sign behavior of weak solutions near interfaces.

This book shows how four types of higher-order nonlinear evolution PDEs have many commonalities through their special quasilinear degenerate representations. The authors present a unified approach to deal with these quasilinear PDEs, describe many properties of the equations, and examine traditional questions of existence/nonexistence, uniqueness/nonuniqueness, global asymptotics, regularizations, shock-wave theory, and various blow-up singularities. The book illustrates how complex PDEs are used in a variety of applications and describes new nonlinear phenomena for the equations.

A reference on nonlinear second-order parabolic partial differential equations that are used as models to help solve a broad class of engineering and physical problems. It uses analytical ideas that are geometric as opposed to super-sub solution methods that have limited application in the physical world.
