Las películas, siendo un medio que interpreta la historia, no constituyen solamente obras artísticas, sino que disponen de la función de difundir la ideología, orientar la opinión pública, recuperar la confianza social, etc. En comparación con las otras formas artísticas, las películas cuentan con ciertas características que les hacen triunfar en el mercado de consumo. Por ejemplo, se trata de una actividad de grupo acudir al cine, lo cual hace que las películas tengan el potencial de causar un impacto social más considerable que las otras producciones artísticas. Además, en una película se puede reducir la historia que transcurre durante varios años en menos de dos horas, creando un efecto épico que no lo tienen los otros medios artísticos. En ese tiempo limitado de un largometraje, es imposible narrar la historia completa, por lo que los directores suelen seleccionar las partes que le parecen importantes para crear su propia historia, motivo por el que puede haber diversas interpretaciones sobre un mismo acontecimiento histórico, fruto de los criterios de selección y relevancia.Entre las películas que hemos elegido, algunas se grabaron en la propia época en que se produjo el movimiento, y las otras en momentos posteriores de dicho acontecimiento, lo cual nos ofrece una visión diacrónica sobre la evolución de las percepciones del suceso a lo largo de la historia, mientras que la comparación entre las cintas chinas y las occidentales nos permite observar las distintas miradas sobre dicho movimiento dentro y fuera de China.

Arid and semi-arid regions face major challenges in the management of scarce freshwater resources under pressures of population, economic development, climate change, pollution and over-abstraction.
