Author Zhou Yongping was one of the team that made Xintiandi possible, successfully balancing the requirements of the city government, local residents, the Shui On property group, future tenants and the millions of people who have visited the area every year since it opened in 2001. In 2016, the American Forbes magazine selected 'Global Top 20 Cultural Landmarks,' and Shanghai Xintiandi was among them.
