Deep River is a 5-minute work arranged for SSAA and piano by American composer Shawn Okpebholo. This beautiful arrangement of the famous traditional song of faith and hope brings calm alongside a sorrowful hope. The slow piano writing is as much an independent part as an accompaniment, helping to bring about a sense of peace and reflection. Deep River was written for the Wheaton College Women's Chorale conducted by Mary Hopper.

Melissa Dunphy is an original and exciting composer living in the USA, though of Australian background. Her piece Halcyon Days, written to a new text from her regular collaborator poet Jacqueline Goldfinger, creates a period of calm during winter storms where we reflect on what we have lost but rise up to face the new year with joy and grace. Written for SATB unaccompanied choir this piece is suitable for any winter concert. Halcyon Days was commissioned by VOCES8 for their LIVE From London festival in 2020.

Brahms composed these part songs for female chorus in 1860 while acting as Director of the Hamburg Women's Choir. Each song lasts around 3 minutes, and is accompanied by an ensemble of harp with two horns (a unique combination for Brahms). Texts are by Ruperti, Shakespeare, Eichendorff and 'Ossian' (with English translations by Jean Lunn). This is the vocal score, containing the harp (or piano) accompaniment and horn cues for rehearsal purposes. A gradual (to be sung on the steps of the altar), 'Virga Jesse Floruit' (The Branch of Jesse Flourished) was composed in 1885. One of Bruckner's most glorious motets, the work is for SATB Choir a capella. Bach's two-part Inventions and three-part Sinfonias (BWV 787-801) have come down to us in an autograph fair copy dated 1723. The Inventions in particular are of merely moderate difficulty and occupy an important place in piano teaching to this day. In terms of their overall organization, the 15 pieces can be seen as leading on to the Wohltemperiertes Klavier. In keeping with normal practice, they were initially distributed in the form of handmade copies, with regular reference to the autograph. The present Urtext edition is based on Bach's autograph as well and has been compared against the NBA. In some of the pieces, the composer himself added additional ornaments at a later stage but did not otherwise undertake significant alterations. In every respect, this new edition of the collection therefore represents an authoritative musical text, without amendments or additions deriving from contemporary secondary sources. Alleluia was composed especially for the choral anthology I Himmelen (Scandinavian music for mixed choir, EP11410).The piece evolves calmly but with a strong momentum, and there is a large dramatic arc across its three-part structure. An easy to moderately difficult work, its clear part-writing and harmony won't place heavy demands on the choir.Alleluia für Chor SATBAlleluia wurde speziell für die Choranthologie I Himmelen (skandinavische Musik für gemischten Chor, EP11410) komponiert. Das Stück entwickelt sich ruhig, aber mit starkem Schwung, und die dreiteilige Struktur weist einen großen dramatischen Bogen auf. Es handelt sich um ein leichtes bis mittelschweres Werk, dessen klare Stimmenführung und Harmonik keine allzu großen Anforderungen an den Chor stellen.

As a composer Saint-Saens was treated with some scepticism by his contemporaries. He was considered an outsider, not belonging to any school or representing any reform movement' (Charles Gounod), and his works were said to be intellectual, unfeelingly sleek and unromantic. His extensive output provides countless examples to the contrary. Among his chamber-music gems is the Piano Trio No. 2 dating from 1892 which is presented here. This is a work of essentially elegiac character offset by virtuosity and complex writing, all handled with consummate skill by the composer. For this new edition the autograph of the Trio was consulted, and as Edition Peters is only the second publisher to issue the piece, a substantial and illuminating re-appraisal of the source material can be expected. Camille Saint-Saëns war ein Universalist von geradezu enzyklopädischer Bildung: Er machte sich verschiedentlich einen Namen als Philosoph, Dichter und Dramatiker, als Astronom, Naturwissenschaftler, Archäologe und Ethnologe, sogar als Zeichner und Karikaturist. The Italian Concerto (BWV 971), is regarded as one of Bach's most popular works. Originally written for two-manual harpsicord as the solo instrument, Bach used the piano and forte manuals of the instrument to highlight the dynamic contrast usually seen in an Italian Concerto. Das Italienische Konzert (BWV 971) gilt als eines der beliebtesten Werke Bachs. While working on his final piano sonatas Beethoven was commissioned to write a large number of folk song arrangements, most of them to English melodies (Ye Shepherds; Faithfu' Johnnie; The Soldier; The Chase of the Wolf; etc.).  A selection of these appears in this revised edition. Composed in 1900-01, the Fantasie in B minor is one of Alexander Skryabin's most demanding and brilliant works for the piano. 1 It has a special position in his oeuvre, being his only solo piano piece with this title.2 The work is laid out in abridged sonata-allegro form and was composed roughly at the same time as his first two symphonies.3 The orchestral writing may have had a strong influence on the Fantasy, which boasts of multi-tiered sound edifices that must often be arpeggiated to be playable at all with two hands.The first edition of 1901 was authorized by the composer and has formed the source of this new edition.
