लेखक के अनुसार 'दिमागी गुलामी' से तात्पर्य मानसिक दासता से है। ये मानसिक दासता प्रान्तवाद, क्षेत्रवाद, जातिवाद व राष्ट्रवाद के नाम पर मनुष्य के मन-मस्तिष्क को जकड़ लिया है। मनुष्य की सोच इन्हीं बातों पर टिकी है जिससे संकीर्णता की भावना ने अपना प्रभाव जमा लिया है। लेखक कहते हैं आज जिस जाति की सभ्यता जितनी पुरानी होती है उनके मानसिक बंधन भी उतने ही अधिक जटिल होते हैं। हमारी सभ्यता जितनी पुरानी है उतनी ही अधिक रुकावटें भी हैं। हमारी आर्थिक, सामाजिक, राजनीतिक समस्याएं इतनी अधिक और जटिल हैं कि हम उनका कोई इलाज सोच ही नहीं सकते जब तक हम अपनी विचारधाराओं को बदलकर सोचने का प्रयत्न नहीं करते हैं। अपने प्राचीन काल के गर्व के कारण हम अपने भूत में इतने गहराई से बंधे हैं कि उनसे हमें ऊर्जा मिलती है। हम अपने पूर्वजों की धार्मिक बातों को आंख मूंदकर मान लेते हैं। आज समाज में धर्म-प्रचार पूर्ण रूप से नफे का रोजगार है अधिकांश लोग आज इसे अपने व्यवसाय के रूप में अपना रहे हैं। इसके साथ-साथ एक नया मत भी लगभग 50-60 वर्षों से चल रहा है। दुनिया भर में कई लोग भूत-प्रेत, जादू-मंत्र सबको विज्ञान से सिद्ध करने में लगे हैं।हिन्दुस्तान का इतिहास देश और काल के हिसाब से बहुत प्राचीन है उसी तरह इसमें पाई जाने वाली मान्यताएं, अंधविश्वास भी बहुत अधिक हैं। हमारे देश में विभिन्न महान ऋषि-मुनि हुए जिन पर हमें हमेशा अभिमान रहा है। कुछ गिने-चुने राजनेता जाति-पाति के मुद्दों को उठाते हैं नहीं तो प्रायः इन ऋषियों की कद्र कर गुणगान करते हैं। इसलिये राष्ट्रीयता के पथ पर चलने वालों को भी समझना चाहिये कि उन्हें देश के उत्पादन के लिये इन दीवारों को गिराना होगा।
