No hace mucho, vino a Pekín. ¿Cuál fue la finalidad de la visita? ¿Cumplir una rutinaria visita de Estado o proponer algo digno de celebrar por todo lo alto, nada menos que en la tierra de Mao: el acta de defunción del socialismo?".

Many people believe that anger in the population of the world as a whole is increasing at an alarming rate. There are various reasons proposed, some of which are: violence on the television and in films; chemicals and E-numbers in processed food; crop spraying; chem-trails from aircraft; alcohol and substance abuse; a decrease in self-control; reduced belief in God; lack of respect for traditional authority figures, and many others.

Humans have long understood that undesirable behaviors and habits have degrees of undesirability. This being so, though, there seems to be only one effect emanating from addictive behaviors, namely, offence. This effect comes in shades of increased or decreased tolerance. In this treatise, we treat only three of such addictive behaviors: Drugs, sex and sin.

Bradley Sides merges the South with the weird in his latest collection of magical realism short stories, Crocodile Tears Didn't Cause the Flood. Here, a boy creates a guide to his beloved pond monster, a parent weighs the consequences of the coming apocalypse, a man protects a jar of delicate moths, a test taker fearlessly faces death, a young woman rejects ownership of her vampire family's farm, a father leaves a letter for his ghost daughter, and a flood of broken robots sparks pure joy. Full of grief, loss, and, somehow, even hope, Sides' fantastic stories boldly and tenderly explore the complexities of humanity. "Bradley Sides' new collection is a traveling carnival filled with pond monsters, vampire girls, fire-breathing children, and minor apocalypses. It's also a collection of good-hearted people trying to make their way through unstable worlds of wonder and joy-in other words, the stories of our lives." -Alexander Weinstein, author of Universal Love "Crocodile Tears Didn't Cause the Flood is a wildly entertaining ride. I loved reading about monsters, a vampire who doesn't want to take over the family garlic farm, ghost children, the apocalypse, and a prehistoric bird-sister in stories that are hilarious, unsettling, tender, and wise. This terrific collection reveals not only Bradley Sides' impressive range as a writer but also the strange and wondrous shapes love can take." -Becky Hagenston, author of The Age of Discovery and Other Stories "In his latest collection, Crocodile Tears Didn't Cause the Flood, Bradley Sides' literary imagination is extraordinary. Monsters and moths. Vampires and dragons. Holograms and ghosts. Sides gives the reader all of this and more. But this book is not just an imaginative feat, through its otherworldly lenses we see clearly what it means to be heartbreakingly and beautifully human. These stories are remarkable." -Andrew Siegrist, author of We Imagined It Was Rain "With his second story collection, Bradley Sides poignantly illustrates the divide between myth and magic, between monsters and men. Crocodile Tears Didn't Cause the Flood invites readers to bear witness to the melancholic yet brilliant transformation of characters who long for family-those broken and found, who sway upon the precipice of faith and unbelief, who ache in the absence of children and parents. In a time when asking, begging, and praying for miracles isn't enough, Sides has gifted us a book full of them." -Nathan Elias, author of The Reincarnations and Coil Quake Rift

Fat or thin, that's always how society will be structured, and no-one is superior to the other. For sure, some people are fat or thin by choice, inadvertently, but that becomes who they are. They may do more or less to restructure and get into the ideal column, so-called ideal "shape," but whether it works or fails, they very much remain who they are, human. It is from this humane framework that they must derive their respect, duty, dignity and confidence. In this treatise, we debunk the Weight Worry Syndrome (WWS).

"With Bullet Tooth, Grant Wamack has created a horror icon for our time. Unlike Freddy and Jason who commit their violent acts with their own two hands, the titular antagonist gorges himself on the violence he encourages in people just like us. The classical sensibilities that made those previous texts work are fully intact here too, but Grant brilliantly reinterprets them for our new dark age in a voice uniquely his. If you like cursed media, iconic horror villains, or urban legends, this book is an absolute must-read." - Lucas Mangum, author of Gods of the Dark Web and BladejobThe latest cult classic from Wonderland award nominee Grant Wamack is a high-octane, hyperviolent mash-up of analog horror, crime, and cutting social commentary highlighting a part of Chicago that's notorious for making headlines. Fans of The Backrooms, Jordan Peele, and Chief Keef will love this adrenaline-fueled narrative as it follows a black teenage artist who is battling depression and grieving the loss of his best friend to gang violence. He unwittingly summons Bullet Tooth, an entity with an insatiable hunger for chaos and violence with an enigmatic VHS tape found inside a dumpster. The polar vortex of violence brewing inside the heart of Chicago sucks two others into its gaping mouth: A Palestinian orphan/fashion influencer with a love for deadly weapons and a gangster/ex-boxer who equips people with the finest artillery. How long can these three Chicagoans survive before they succumb to the seductive song of Bullet Tooth?"Wamack's prose is immersive in its authenticity, bringing the streets of the 'Raq to the pages of this book. Vengeance and violence, gangs and guns, load up your extendos and hundred-round drums and join me in songs of praise for Bullet Tooth." -David Simmons, author of Ghosts of East Baltimore

ForewordRenowned Poets Omar Khayyam Omar Khayyam (1048 - 1123) was a Persian poet, famous for his Rubaiyat form of poetry built upon quatrains. He was also a well-known philosopher, mathematician, astronomer, mystic and a free-thinker, who wondered about the impermanence of life, and man's relationship to God. He lived in a time period when fanaticism, orthodoxy and military demagogues controlled and dictated people's daily life. Through his poems, Khayyam encouraged people to break free from the socio-political and religious tyranny. Unfortunately, his poems could not be circulated openly due to a callous an intolerant environment. As a result, only few of his contemporaries had the chance to read and benefit from it. He doubted the existence of divine providence and the afterlife and chose to put his faith in a joyful appreciation of the fleeting and sensuous beauties of the material world to celebrate the idyllic nature and pleasures of living in a moment as below: Set not thy heart on any good or gain, life means but pleasure, or means but pain;when Time lets slip a little perfect hour, >Khayyam warned that if self-care is neglected and postponed to some obscure notion of 'tomorrow', the pleasure of living in the 'now' is irreversibly lost. He believed that each moment of life is complete in itself, by itself, and that the incompleteness manifests itself only in the 'mental state' of which we are not often aware. The natural world lives independently for itself, unattached to our feelings of pain and joy, and in Khayyam's view, acknowledging this liberating fact is the first step towards having a pleasant life. He said not to take things too seriously and to question existence of God and heaven: Grab life with both your hands, squeeze every bit it has to offer, cherish it every day.>Some scholars and critics argue that the name of Omar Khayyam should "be struck out from the history of Persian literature" due to the lack of any material that could confidently be attributed to him. While it is certain that Khayyam wrote many quatrains, it is hardly possible, save in a few exceptional cases, to assert positively that he wrote any of those ascribed to him. The modern-day popularity of Khayyam is mainly due to the English translations of Edward FitzGerald (1859) from the Bodleian manuscript. Ashok K. When Annette, the editor of a survivalist magazine, embarks on a weekend getaway up Minnesota's north shore with her boyfriend Sebastion, events spiral out of control when a gang of rowdy bikers starts to show up at their every stop and pay her more attention than she feels comfortable with. The always-prepared Annette does not believe in coincidences. To further complicate the situation, Annette is also dismayed when Sebastion questions her worries and suggests they are nothing but a result of cutting her PTSD meds. As if in direct rebuttal to his position, the bikers rumble into the same remote B&B as the couple, the gang's aggressive leader inviting Annette and Sebastion to join them outside at the bonfire for drinks and weed. Feeling cornered, and long ago vowing to never allow an unwanted touch again, Annette's actions continue to escalate, resulting in an explosion of bloody violence and revenge inspired by her survivalist skills. When the true evil of the situation reveals itself, only Annette's rage and cunning, no matter her guilt or innocence, can possibly save them.

'Hold her still!' she heard the magistrate command, and a hand, presumably that of the constable, pressed hard and flat between her shoulder blades, pinning her to the seat. The second blow fell with the full strength of his arm, catching her unawares across the crown of her bottom. Her legs shot outwards and buckled at the knees. 'And this, ' the magistrate continued with great satisfaction, 'is purely for the pleasure of beating you!' Olivia, a young and innocent vagabond in Mid-Victorian England, is condemned to imprisonment in a notoriously harsh institute of correction, where strict chastisement and cruel punishments are commonplace, and where the young virgin finds no relief from either the birch rod or the sexual deviance of staff and inmates. Upon release from the awful place the naive girl embarks on a journey that leads her into the sinister underworld of London, her virginity under constant threat, and despite her determination to remain pure she slowly discovers her own simmering desires and finds suppressing them increasingly challenging. But who, if anyone, will be the lucky person to take what has long been denied...?

The overlooked story of one of the last battles of the Second World War, which shaped the course of the Cold War. Perfect for readers of Max Hastings, James Holland and Stephen E. Ambrose. By the spring of 1945 the end of World War Two was in sight. Adolf Hitler committed suicide on 30th April leaving Admiral Dönitz in charge of what was left of the crumbling Nazi state while Allied troops were storming into Germany from East and West. Yet, Field-Marshal Montgomery and Winston Churchill knew that this was not the moment to take it easy and wait for the inevitable collapse of their enemy, instead they looked to the future and saw the growing threat of the increasingly powerful and aggressive USSR. In the last remaining days of conflict, Montgomery and the British Army fought their way towards the Baltic coast in order to halt the advancing Russians from moving westwards into North-West Europe. This campaign began brilliantly, but finally ended in failure. Why did Dwight D. Eisenhower, who had previously been such a firm friend of the British, give only limited support to Montgomery and Churchill's race to meet the Soviet advance? And how did this failure lay the groundworks for the Cold War that was to emerge in the aftermath of the Second World War? Charles Whiting's thoroughly researched Finale at Flensburg is an eye-opening account of the dying moments of World War Two. Through interviews with many of the prominent German, American and British actors, Whiting is able to reconstruct this oft-forgotten battle and its aftermath.

*Canary In a Covid World* is an Amazon #1 Best Seller across multiple categories-hailed as *the* essential read of the Covid era, offering unparalleled insights and perspectives that have captivated readers worldwide. The thirty four contributors, the Canaries, to this collection of essays are courageous people. They are critical thinkers who are prepared to put everything on the line to speak their truth. They strive to alert us all to what COVID was, and what may lie ahead. They are community leaders. They are novelists, journalists, lawyers, judges, scientists, doctors, academics, politicians, researchers, vaccine-injured and data experts. Some shouted from the rooftops from the very beginning of the pandemic, others found their voices as the contradictions in public policy and health policy became undeniable. What unites them is that they have given those looking for answers, factual evidence. They have alleviated fear and given us hope. The subject of COVID is often too sensitive to introduce into polite conversation. Battle lines are drawn and more often than not there's no amount of data, facts or opinion that will change perspectives. However, we believe that once people understand that their opinions have been formed based on information that has been heavily censored, they will be more inclined to entertain the possibility that all is not what it seems. The endeavour of this book is to bring thoughtful voices together to sing as one choir. The diversity of these voices that harmonise may allow others to hear the music. The erotic CP community is very much a special kind of club, devoted to the sexual pleasure of corporal punishment and bondage. Taking pleasure from spanking or binding your partner is not unique to you, as you will discover as you read this eclectic collection of cp sex files. Jane handed him a cane and told him not to spare me. 'Make her remember this visit, ' she said. The swish through the air told me the bamboo cane was descending. Even before it landed I was squealing, then had a good reason to as my bottom stung and the caning continued relentlessly. When it eventually ceased I was left weak and whimpering, but the heat generated had spread through to my pussy and set it throbbing. Why do men and women alike engage in these activities? Clearly because they want to, as shown in this collection of their own words!

I hope these poems will strike a chord with anyone who loves the distinctive landscapes and mythologies of Yorkshire, and the areas around Malham.Half of them, and the short story, were originally written in 1986 and 1987 for use with Year 5 pupils (9-10 yrs) during themed outdoor educational visits.Every poem in this collection is a reflection of the love I developed for Yorkshire landscapes, its people, and Malham in particular. That love has not diminished since I left the area in 2016 after having lived in Gargrave at the start of a road that leads to the heart of this wonderful village, and the landscapes and mysteries that surround it.

One goes to Peter Waldor's poems as to deep wells of wisdom, to draw up the strength and beauty that we so urgently need. Understandings and Misunderstandings: in poem after poem, it is the reader, even more than the poet, who is confronted with these situations. What do we know about nature? About the people around us? About our loved ones? About the often troubling social circumstances we have inherited? Seemingly anecdotal, seemingly based on quotidian events, hewn from the vernacular, these poems gradually unfold into complex parables. Like Gerald Stern, Waldor's "mentor and master" in the wonderful poem "Pear Sharing," Waldor has learned a great lesson: "to talk to as many / strangers as one can." Listen. -Norman Finkelstein, author of TrackPeter Waldor's poems in Understandings and Misunderstandings invite us to linger within the brightness of the everyday, to celebrate the beauty of human relationships, and to consider the basis of our understanding of one another. Deft and dextrous lines that deliver prim-metered narratives hallmark these poems, as they interrogate the human condition, aiming toward a better way of being in the world, to learning how to be fully present, and to being dedicated to finding joy, reverie, and delight in the ordinary. Waldor invites us to cherish all of what we share with others, and to recognize the way in which we live is singular. "Permit yourself / to dream," he writes, and so we shall.-Carey Salerno, Executive Director, Alice James Books
