In A.D. 362, Christianity is ascendant, and paganism appears to be breathing its last. The Pythia, Apollo's Oracle of Delphi, barely subsists on the waning faith of the god's remaining followers. But the newly-crowned Roman emperor Julian promises a return to the old gods. All he requires from the Pythia is a prophecy of triumph in the coming wars, and Apollo will bask in the glory of an Olympian renaissance. The Pythia must do everything in her power to stop this from happening.This series will follow the story of Melanippe, a young woman whose entire history before becoming the Pythia has been lost to her. Through visions, she will be visited by five of her predecessors who, piece by piece, impart upon her the turbulent history of the prophetic cult, and in doing so restore her to herself. They also warn her of the terrible fate awaiting humanity if Julian is given his wish. It will be up to Melanippe to avert this future, bringing down the curtain on an ancient religion and sealing the fate of an empire in the bargain - if she can just figure out how to do it.

In A.D. 117, the Roman Empire is at the height of its power. Emperor Trajan has pushed its borders to their furthest extent with his recent conquest of the kingdom of Dacia, in what is now modern-day Romania. What the Romans do not know is that this conquest has come at a terrible price. People across the new province begin to disappear, with villages, towns and entire cohorts of Roman troops vanishing into a dense, shroud-like fog that smothers the land. Veteran cavalryman Tiberius Claudius Maximus has been sent by the new emperor Hadrian to assess any threat to the province. What he discovers is a force of evil entirely new to the world being born in the Dacian mists. If the Romans cannot correct their mistake and defeat this evil, it will wash across the empire and all of humanity, bringing with it an age of eternal night. ​
