Elizabeth Burgess was lucky enough to have Dr. J.J. Van Noppen for English at Appalachian State Teachers College. (now University) He encouraged her to write. She did not take writing seriously until the early 1980's when she returned from teaching in Baumholder Germany and was selected to attend The Writing Project at UNC-Pembroke. The project was based on the Berkeley, California Model. She received the Most Improved Award at the end of the project. This spurred her to write poetry and short stories and since her retirement from teaching she has written 3 novellas, 2 poetry collections, 1 childrens book with another in the works. She taught her 1st & 2nd graders to write stories. She believes we are never too young or to old to write for pleasure or publication.

Most people today turn to the Criminal Justice System for support in time of need. They expect the apprehension, prosecution, conviction and punishment of the "bad guys". Unfortunately, the system exists for society in general and not necessarily for the individual victim. Too often the guilt is not determined, or if it is, the punishment is not appropriate for the severity of the crime. What happens then you ask? Our system fails even though the police did their job, and the criminal is free to again do the deed. Society is then left wondering how to proceed. Devine intervention has worked in the past in some instances, but the "higher power", whatever your belief, can also become frustrated and simply tire of some people's ignorance and lack of morals. Typically, the affairs are left to be tended by the people, but if and when it gets out of hand, matters must be addressed. It is at this point the decision had to be made to let mankind act as if they were the right hand of the ultimate overseer. There would be a list made of people to be dealt with and two men would be chosen to carry out the specifics. These men would be known as "God's Hitmen".

Many five year olds first step through the door of their kindergarten classroom clutching a favorite toy or squeezing a wedge of their blanket. But not Michael. Reading was a key to discovery and learning, and learning was Mike's life long passion, particularly learning about history.

Born to now-departed aristocratic parents who built the stately Rexford Manor in the farmlands of southwest Colorado, Rex is uniquely suited to grab the attention of the world. In the process of time, Rex confronts brother and sister news reporters Mike and Dolly Dandridge in a quite mysterious way and their lives are literally saved by his warnings. The two agnostics are intrigued by a man they have never met as they repeatedly cross paths with those whose lives have been incredibly affected by Rex's influence. In the search for who and what this man is, they are confronted with far more than just what they suspected was simply a 'fanatic' preacher who was stalking them. Tornadoes that do no damage, huge hail storms that leave no trace, and a gigantic hurricane that is verily controlled by the prayers of one man keep the entire world on the edge of its seat with anxiety wondering who this prophet is and just what his message is all about. The Dandridges watch as the forces of darkness gather to destroy the one they have come to call The Rex, and they find out all to personally what it means to defend the man in the face of a society which hates him despite his love, his goodness, and his dedication to Jesus. The time is now, and yet Rex is moved by his God to make known that what heaven could do, it eventually will do whenever the end of the world finally arrives.

Rose City Tales. The following collection of verse includes short stories that were inspired from my recollections with events, fables and yarns that cover my upbringing while living here in Portland, Oregon. It's my intent to remember the times that meant the most to me and pass them down to others to enjoy. These stories are dedicated in memory to those that shared their lives with me (directly or indirectly) and in memory to those that helped shape these foibles. I want to thank my friends and family in helping create these stories, for their inspiration and love.

Never Stop Learning is a collection of 21 stories that I originally wrote for my 10 grandchildren, as helpful guidance to assist them in navigating life more easily and successfully. Subsequently, I became convinced that if my stories could help my family, then they could help many other people. This book is the result. Each story's purpose is to teach lessons defining the keys to unlocking success, happiness, love, appreciation and respect. Who should read this book? Truthfully, the ones who could get the most benefit are 16-35-year-olds because they have the most time left, maybe the greatest need, plus they are going through the years where they are making many key decisions in rapid order about education, careers, jobs, and perhaps marriage and children. But I truly believe anyone from 8 to 100 would learn from the book's lessons. I state this because some of my reviewers in their 80's told me so. This I know. None of us will ever know everything about most anything. We still have plenty to learn. Personally, I am never going to stop trying to learn. Like me, others still have that hunger for knowledge and understanding. I hope more will join us in that pursuit. Never stop learning. You won't regret it.

In a redwood cabin in the middle of the woods live three bears: a baby bear, a momma bear, and a big daddy bear. One day before breakfast, they decide to go on a hike, never expecting the surprise that awaits their return. Curly Locks gets up early that morning, too, and goes for a run. After taking a shortcut, she ends up lost but finds her way to the three bears' cabin. She hopes to ask for directions but finds the cabin empty so goes investigating. She tries out the bears' chairs and beds and eventually ends up in the kitchen. When the three bears return home, they're shocked to find a girl with curly hair cooking them breakfast! These strangers sit together and chat, getting to know one another. Despite their differences, they're alike in many ways, too. Relationships can be built in unlikely ways, as Curly Locks and the three bears become friends for life.

The main aim of this poetry is to express some of the feelings that were created by the deadly Liberian civil crisis that led many dead, homeless and mentally disturbed, socially, morally, and economically imbalanced. The result of these conditions set heavy grief and frustration in my heart as the author of this book. Most of the poems have emotional tones because of the mood and personal experiences of the writer. However, these poems are intended to bring consolation and joy in the minds of its readers in order to let out bad feelings. I am aware that negative feeling, which includes anger, contempt, guilt and fear, must be minimized, if not eradicated in our daily lives.

Every religion on earth, godly or ungodly, Christianity, occultism, and satanic religions all respects blood and have something in one way or the other to do with blood. The Bible is a bloody book because blood is central to both the Old and New Testaments. After man sinned in the garden, the story of man's redemption has been a journey that began with the shedding of blood in Eden and ended with blood at Calvary. We have been taught about blood and how that blood is powerful. There are more religious songs about power in blood than any other subject, but what the church have not looked much into is the revelation of what makes blood powerful. Is it the usual red color of blood? Pre-suppose the blood of Jesus wasn't shed at all, will there still be any power at all in bloods in general that were shed before the crucifixion of Christ? This books takes the reader on an intriguing journey about mysteries in blood from a biblical perspective.

This book follows the devotional theme of other books I have written over the last few years (Unraveling the Revelation, Prayers from the Psalms, Reflections on Romans, and Reflections on the Gospel of John), but with an added feature.
