Footprints are a collection of poems that were either written or revised recently or recalled from work begun and lost fifty years before. Some recall pleasant memories of my beloved Veronica and some of her later struggles with ill health. She was born and grew up in Dublin and Ireland remained a special place for both of us. The DART from Howth to Greystones "tunnels under Queen V's crown and pops out for the view above Killiney Bay" where "the magic face of Ireland is found." We met and married in Syracuse. Events and places from that time are featured in some of the poems. Newtown Plus Five was written shortly after news coverage of the fifth anniversary of the Sandy Hook school massacre. An Elegy for One and Many commemorates the life of a friend of the victims of the Pittsburgh synagogue rampage who died during the same period. Many of the poems are written in traditional verse forms and rhyme schemes.A number of poems reflect concerns about America: the face it presents to the world and the state of its democracy. Ode from a Colonial Bowl recounts a family history of its founding.Flint where "once-upon-a-time America coursed through (its) leaden arteries to nurse its middle class." In Vietnam "we've grown old, some fifty years removed from when our universe was rolled into a white-hot ball," to find the common threads we shared in youth to pursue our common legacy. American Graffiti asks, "Can Cicero and Caesar coexist within republican constraint?"Let Freedom Ring calls upon us to answer "the distant bells of freedom pealing " in Ukraine. The challenge is to understand how both poems can be compatible with our logic.

Fiasco Farm is a charming story about a piece of land nestled in a small hidden valley of hill country in northern New England which dates back to the nineteenth century. A Push in the Wrong Direction was a very hard book to write. It's about the struggles in the first half of my life. If I can, I'll finish my second book about the second half of my life and share that also. Enjoy this book please.

History is a record of past events. It is a systematic account of people and events. History must be accurate. Historians use guidelines to research and write History. It should be written with a neutral point of view. All aspects of the historically significant individual must be researched, evaluated, verified, and placed into the perspective of the time it occurred. Most importantly, the events should be accurate and truthful. This book is more Historical Revisionism than History. My view is neither neutral nor secondhand. However controversial and outrageous the recorded events may appear, they are, in fact, True! The truth, of course, is not only an adequate defense but also the purpose of my writing.John is a lifelong academic and professional author, publishing three non-fiction volumes. He began his career as a researcher at CBS-WCAU TV as director of Research; followed by high-level government positions in Philadelphia politics. Namely; Executive Assistant to the Mayor of Philadelphia from 1970-1980, where he continued writing position papers, background investigations, speeches, and political research. He left that position in 1980 when he became the executive assistant to the Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee and was followed by managing the campaign for the incumbent Philadelphia District Attorney. During his entire career, John graduated from five different graduate schools obtaining 3 master's degrees and dual Ph.D. degrees in Psychological Research and also Forensics. In Fried Oyster Sandwich, Pastor Gross presents the alternative history that follows a Confederate victory in the war fought to achieve its independence. He attempts to describe it first from the view of the Kaufmann family, then from that of professional media people of the time. In Appendix A, he describes how the Confederates won the war. All characters in Appendix A are real people. In the novel itself, some monarchs are real, but the talking characters are all fictitious. Four generations have been created for the Kaufmann family and three for the Mexican Hapsburgs. Two appendices describe the intervention of a Confederate expeditionary force on the imperial side in Mexico and a list of the presidents of the Confederate States of America.
To my children, grandchild, son, and whoever should read this book, let it be an encouragement to you. It doesn't matter if you are poor class, middle-class, or wealthy. We are all created equally in God's sight. The ground is level at the cross for everyone. We all have the capacity to survive. So put your boots on, pull them up, and don't be afraid to take steps forward. Never sit and say poor me! Look around and see how God blessed you. Hold your heads high and wear the Shield of Faith. By all means, give God the glory and praise because you are His creation, and He doesn't make losers or failures. You know He created each one of us to have fellowship with Him. So why not? What a journey this has been so far.
