John was born in New Tupton, a village in Derbyshire, he was the son of Fredrick and Phyllis, both practising Christians of the Pentecostal faith throughout their life, John puts the title of war baby to his name, being born on the 21/07/1945, the end of world war two, he wasn't on his own and had plenty of friends in his childhood days, John's father was a coal miner, and he expected John to join him down the mine after schooling finished, however, john secured an apprenticeship with a local building firm, and became a carpenter, he was successful and went on to set up his own firm, he had a strong passion for motor cycles and was well known in the area for being a fast driver, to the disappointment of his mother, in the early 70's John was introduced to darts, like many things in his life, he believed it was fate, he began playing in local leagues, went on to become National Champion, and the rest is history, his darting career spanned over 50 years and it has taken him round the globe many times, in 2019 John received the MBE for services to darts, presented by Prince William at Buckingham Palace, he proudly talks of this being one of the finest moments of his life, John is the author of "The Nine Dart Legend" making it the fifth book he has written, it is a book that takes you through the 76 years of the coal miners son from New Tupton to driving through the gates of Buckingham Palace, it's a journey of remarkable interest, excitement, and the arduous task of living with Covid, John's journey has been extraordinary in many ways, he has won hundreds of titles worldwide, learnt the culture of many countries, adjusted his life to unexpected changes, when asked what he regards one of the most important lessons he has learnt from his life journey, he will instantly say, compassion, a word his mother told him when he was a youngster in New Tupton, to never forget. I am Gerald Harwood, a retired Flight Sergeant from the Royal Air Force. I am married with three children.Whilst serving on operational duty overseas I acquired a brain injury. During my long period of hospitalisation I became bored and put pen to paper writing poetry and illustrating some of my poems. This book contains a small collection of my work. Prior to my multiple brain injuries I had a limited ability to draw, however since suffering I have been blessed with the ability to draw and write. Often my poetry will simply flow from my pen in minutes. I hope you enjoy my work and that you may get some form of inspiration from my experience of brain injury.

Since my almost two months imprisonment in 2009 for her non-violent harassment, followed by almost three months of locked ward psychiatric hospital impatient stay, nine months on leave from my full- t ime employment, which led to my being redeployed to another post, in Waterloo, Lambeth with a new Specialism of 'Digital Inclusion' for our hostel of all ages adult Criminal Justice System entrenched, parents and none - engaged in multiple varying faiths and none, mixed gender, races, disabilities, education, nationalities and sexuality clients, with multiple poly addictions and alcohol usage, mental health, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and male, female and transgender sex industry and begging employment; with non gender specific sex addiction, and histories of domestic violence and rape. In addition, I experienced a nine month estrangement from my nine year old biological only child; my only contact with C these days is to be frequently perusing her online activities FaceBook; Vimeo; YouTube; Soundcloud; Twitter; plus her Websites and blogs.

This book is dedicated to my Mum... KayKay I have been writing Poetry from the age of 11 and could often be found in Holland Park cafe when I should have been at school. I was writing poems in exchange for cups of tea, teenage girls always wanted a poem to give to their latest love or ache. I am a single mother and have raised my girls on very little money, so I know the struggles are real, my girls are amazing young women of whom I am very proud. After a near death experience with my last child, I went to college and in 2005 passed my Reiki Master Level. I have Darshna Vadera, my Sensei to thank for this. Reiki was a complete life game changer for me and I have been blessed to be able to continue this practice in my day-to-day life. Reiki has got me through some of the toughest times in my life mentally, emotionally and physically, I feel everyone should get to experience treatments. Reiki allows the body and mind to work as one. Reiki absolutely helped with everything in my life. I will spend the rest of my days practising and sharing the Reiki vibrations. I have always been encouraged by family members and friends, regarding my poetry. This year I was inspired to reach out and try to get some of my poetry out there... So here I am.My Poems always have a sentiment of emotion in them I write as I see and feel it. I always feel the energy of the subject I am writing. Writing is my way to learn and digest life's teachings. It is a release for the ramblings that go on in my mind and a compass for which I can follow. It seemed that there was a basic need to draw, paint, and express what was on the inside. I could organize and put things together on paper or canvas that went together in no other way, at no other time. It was a way entering the bigger world outside myself and I walked into that world eagerly. I was first inspired by a glossy photo‐journal of the early sixties with photographs of Caroline Kennedy on top of a horse. When I later tried to ride a horse in imitation it ran to the middle of an interstate expressway and stopped in its tracks, frozen with fear. I loved horses until I learned they had a will of their own that was often greater than that of the rider. Regardless, they were often better on paper than in real life.I started drawing with a pencil and charcoal but later graduated to oils paints, acrylics, pastels and finally watercolors. I always felt lost until I made it my own and was comfortable with it. I still search for a permanent beauty, a harmony that may not be there otherwise. It gives me a deep satisfaction when it comes out as I wanted it in the first place. It helps me to keep me away from telling scattered and pointless, disorganized stories. Art was good therapy then now. The process still works. I would encourage anyone with the smallest well of desire or need to jump in the water, to get wet. It feels good, and the water is fine.

When he left the army at twenty, he had substantial mental difficulties, but he passed some A levels, an NVQ in business administration and an HND in computer studies before his mental illness got too much for him and he committed a crime, stabbing his father with a kitchen knife in 1997. He went to prison and then to mental hospital where he started writing poetry. He has since written twelve books and worked as a warehouseman, a mental health support worker, and he has taught creative writing. He got married in 2011 and divorced in 2016, and still has a loving relationship with his ex-wife who he cares for at present. His hobbies include gardening, DIY, and writing.

This book is a supplement to last year¿s Retrospective Perspectives, Volume I. It includes about thirty more pages andmany more illustrations with accompanying commentary. It has been divided into the major headings of ]The Garden], ]Trees], ]Abstracts] and ]Portraits] as these provide a meaningful description of the content in which I specialize. The reader needs to be aware that this work was done over a period of approximately twenty-five years but always on a sideline basis. Since retiring in 2014, I have concentrated on drawing and painting to the exclusion of any other work, so it is focused and more intense than when I first started to draw and paint. It is hoped that the reader enjoys the content.From the start, I have used drawing and painting as a way of calming down, concentrating and focusing on settling things around me. By calling them ]artwork] I could make them look as I wanted them to remain. I thought they should speak with my voice and say what I wanted to say. It came natural to me because that was what I wanted. It was just that simple. I still see things that way: there is the passing and there is the fixed. I never found a way to pursue this interest in the everyday world. Everyone knew that artists starved. Who wants to pursue a trail to starvation?I think this unfortunate state needs to change. The older I grew the greater was the desire to do images of people and things that mattered most. I think we are all drawn to what is most important in our lives. I hope you are ready to join me in looking back over sixty years of life in service to others in small towns, small cities and finally big cities. I hope you find it enjoyable.
