This Handbook is a unique reference for scientists and engineers, containing over 3,800 nonlinear partial differential equations withsolutions.Thebook concernsfirst-, second-, third-, fourth-, and higher-order nonlinear PDEs and systems of coupled PDEs.It discusses parabolic, hyperbolic, and elliptic equations as well as those of mixed and general type. All in all, the handbook contains many more nonlinear equations of mathematical physics and other nonlinear PDEs with their exact solutions, than any other book currently available. Apart from the exact solutions, it also provides various reductions and transformations leading to ordinary differential equations, linear PDEs, or simpler PDEs.A solution is called exact if, when substituted into the differential equation under consideration, it turns the equation into an identity. In this case, no approximations or simplifications of the equation are allowed, and no a priori assumptions are used.Exact solutions to nonlinear equations of mathematical physics are understood as follows: solutions expressed in terms of elementary functions, functions included in the equation (this is necessary when the equation depends on arbitrary functions), and indefinite integrals; solutions expressed in terms of solutions to ordinary differential equations or systems of such equations.Exact solutions of mathematical equations have always played and continue to play a massive role in forming a correct understanding of the qualitative features of many phenomena and processes in various fields of natural science. The book will be helpful for a wide range of researchers, university teachers, and graduate and postgraduate students specializing in the fields of applied and computational mathematics, mathematical and theoretical physics, continuum mechanics, control theory, biology, biophysics, biochemistry, medicine, chemical engineering sciences, and ecology.

Symbolic regression (SR) is one of the most powerful machine learning techniques that produces transparent models, searching the space of mathematical expressions for a model that represents the relationship between the predictors and the dependent variable without the need of taking assumptions about the model structure. Currently, the most prevalent learning algorithms for SR are based on genetic programming (GP), an evolutionary algorithm inspired from the well-known principles of natural selection. This book is an in-depth guide to GP for SR, discussing its advanced techniques as well as examples of applications in science and engineering. The basic idea of GP is to evolve a population of solution candidates in an iterative, generational manner, by repeated application of selection, crossover, mutation and replacement, thus allowing the model structure, coefficients and input variables to be searched simultaneously. Given that explainability and interpretability are key elements for integrating humans into the loop of learning in AI, increasing the capacity for data scientists to understand internal algorithmic processes and their resultant models has beneficial implications for the learning process as a whole. This book represents a practical guide for industry professionals and students across a range of disciplines, particularly data science, engineering and applied mathematics. Focussed on state-of-the-art SR methods and providing ready-to-use recipes, this book is especially appealing to those working with empirical or semi-analytical models in science and engineering.

On the Fractal Language of Medicine bridges a very clear gap between the knowledge gained over the last 20 years in the physical and life sciences about network theory, organ synchronicity and communication, the understanding of fractal signatures in health and disease, and the importance of fractional calculus in integrating these concepts. The authors opined that the field of medicine has not appreciated this hard-won knowledge and has suffered greatly as a result. This book addresses this perceived deficiency by introducing medical researchers, clinicians, residents, first-year medical students, and members of allied fields to the work of the so-called hard sciences. It seeks to facilitate effective communication between empiricists and theorists by making interdisciplinary efforts to explain complex mathematical concepts to physicians and, equally important, to elucidate complex medical concepts to physicists or mathematicians. This book will be of great interest to medical students, professionals and academics, as well as students and researchers of applied mathematics, especially those interested in fractional calculus and fractals.

This book explores the essence of immunity. After an initial review of hypotheses, models, and theories proposed to explain immune phenomena in humans and mice, it summarizes the results from synchronic organism-level analyses and diachronic analyses tracing phylogeny. These results suggest that immunity is coextensive with life and is equipped with functions similar to the nervous system. Philosophical reflection with reference to Spinoza and Canguilhem suggests immunity is part of the essence of life - and the essence of immunity embraces elements with normativity. Approaching the essence of any phenomenon in this way is called "metaphysicalization of science." This book demonstrates the potential of this approach and contributes to a richer understanding of nature.Key Features- Reviews the history of immunological theories- Discusses and integrates science and philosophy- Provides a biological framework for cognition and self vs. non-self- Inspired by Auguste Comte's "The Law of Three Stages"

This book is an introductory guide to programming and coding in Stata. Commonly encountered code in the field of medical statistics as well as the analyses of observational data are presented. For those who are involved in the analyses of observational studies, the need to sometimes assemble large datasets will necessitate a detailed understanding of loops and macros. This book covers these materials early on and then describes other commonly required coding commands. For those who program in a controlled environment (.e.g. medical statisticians who perform analyses for regulatory bodies), the production of log files, a suggested folder structure and analysis pathway are covered. This book also includes a wide range of tabulation commands and other methods of producing tables of descriptive statistics. The text also then provides a clear explanation of how to perform some inferential analyses (including how to extract and format the coefficients for use in subsequent reports). The focus on coding allows beginners to grasp the basics of coding and programming, as well as allowing established researchers to hone their skills and become more advanced programmers.Key Features: Covers the fundamental of using and understanding Stata. Able to be used by anyone looking to learn the basics of coding. Introduces and explains difficult concepts such as macros from the outset.
