অদ্যাবধি আমি যা কিছু শুনেছি, পড়েছি এবং বুঝেছি এরসার জানাচ্ছি। সেই সারও কোনও নতুন কথা নয়, তা সকলের। অভিজ্ঞতালব্ধ কথা। মানুষের স্বভাব হলাে যে সে সর্বদা নতুন কথা শুনতে চায়, প্রকৃতপক্ষে যা চিরকাল থাকে সেইটিই হলাে নতুন কথা।মহাভাগবতের মতে মহাকালীই হচ্ছেন মুখ্য (প্রধান) এবং তার উগ্র ও সৌম্য দুই রূপের অন্তবর্তী অনেক রূপ। ধারণকারিণী হল দশমহাবিদ্যা। বিদ্যাপতি ভগবান মহাদেবের শক্তি এই দশমহাবিদ্যা অনন্ত সিদ্ধি প্রদানকারিণী। দার্শনিক দিক থেকেও কালতত্ত্বের প্রাধান্যই সবার উপরে। এইজন্যই মহাকালী বা কালীই সমস্ত বিদ্যার আদি অর্থাৎ হার বিদ্যাময় বিভূতি সকলই মহাবিদ্যা। মনে হয় মহাকালের প্রিয়তমা কালীই নিজের দক্ষিণ ও বাম রূপসমুহে দশমবিদ্যা নামে বিখ্যাত।
