Collateralized Loan Obligations (CLOs) were left for dead after the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) of 2008-2009. Since then, CLOs have made a surprising comeback. Their popularity among investors is partially the result of impressive CLO performance during the GFC and beyond. CLO notes issued before the GFC did not have material defaults, and many CLO equity securities issued prior to the GFC ended up with annualized returns above 20%. Today the CLO market has over $1 trillion in assets under management and has replaced banks as the largest lender to private equity-backed companies.CLO Investing: With an Emphasis on CLO Equity & BB Notes describes CLOs in detail, emphasizing the securities with the highest risk and reward potential, CLO BB notes and equity. The readers of this textbook will learn the characteristics of the CLO's leveraged loans, financing structure, payment rules and tests, and historical returns. As CLOs are gaining in popularity, investment professionals of all varieties will benefit from author Shiloh Bates's meticulous understanding of this unique market and the strategies for successfully investing in it.

Pure education prepares students to be statesmen for central, state, and local governments, the finest scholars for colleges and universities, and other leaders in society. Many of the fine merits of this book center on revealing the actual foundation of American schools and supporting a comprehensive view of instruction that transmits ideas and not just processes. This book plainly explains why there is no excellence in American schools and provides a blueprint for students to rise above mediocrity. According to the author, pure education exists only in a familial context where students are considered unique. Since they ignore the unique gifts of individual children and promote the idea of the "average" student, the public schools do not educate, but merely create uniformly trained workers for the power elite in America. If education is to survive in America, then home schools must be equipped with this vital critique to provide explicit substance while complementing parental instincts.Included as an appendix in this third edition of Critique of Pure Education is a thought-provoking essay about education in the United States, titled "The Educator and Cultural Reclamation," written by Dr. James E. Kibler, author, poet, and professor of Southern literature at the University of Georgia, Athens.Parents who are concerned about the proper education for their children must read this book, because the well-being of their children depends upon it.

Four friends meet a mysterious stranger with a robotic voice ... an encounter that will change their lives forever.Jake and Leo have spent the last two years working on a sequel to a successful shooter / role-playing game at Scrub-Liminal Studios in Austin, Texas, working under industry legend Mickey Whitmore. Meanwhile, their friends Tim and Allison worked on a hugely anticipated new sci-fi space exploration game at Green Gryphon Games on the outskirts of town, under the eccentric leadership of Bentley Bartle. As the stranger asks them to recount their tale, they tell the story of their epic quest to achieve game development greatness -- a story of teamwork, ambition, struggle, tragedy, office politics, clashing expectations and personalities, extraordinary personal suffering, and a helper who guides them to a profound new understanding of how values drive culture, and how culture drives outcomes. This book gives a unique and entertaining perspective on game development, an "in the trenches" view of how teams succeed or fail from the point of view of the hard-working developers doing everything they can to help their teams succeed. It shows the critical role of leadership and values, the seemingly trivial mistakes that can snowball into serious problems, and insights into what it takes to change things for the better.

It is 1987: the "greed is good" era. When anxious ad agency whiz Ben Franklin Green accidentally falls through a wall during a hilarious boardroom presentation, he hops a plane and flies west instead of returning to work. During a nostalgic sojourn in the eucalyptus and marijuana-scented playland of LA's sexy Laurel Canyon, he plans to develop a book with his former mentor about the sham that is the advertising business. But his plans are short-lived as they get news that his mentor's outdoorsy daughter has been kidnapped while working in the Rocky Mountain wilds. Ben, with the sharp creativity of a Madison Avenue idea man, becomes an unlikely detective as he is reluctantly drawn into the case. The brisk, irreverent narrative of The Idea People recalls literary voices of nature-loving writers such as Jim Harrison, Ed Abbey, Rick Bass, James A. McLaughlin, and Charles Frazier. Western-style battles, carnal capers, wild animals, and outlaws present uncharacteristic challenges for the urban, neurotic protagonist. There are love interests, bear encounters, wild horseback rides, a gun belt, an arrow wound, back-country brawls, '80s-style boozing, and an engaging amount of Sherlock Holmes-style ratiocination. Ben's interest in nature, loyalty to his friends, and an uncanny ability to see what others miss, just might allow him to become a rare bird who finds a new life and love in the Wild West.

This is the story of a young man who went from the back seat of the police car, to being the driver of the car-an inspirational story of how God's grace brought a young man who was destined for prison, or the grave, to triumph over his circumstances and defeat all odds. This is the story of a kid who went through so much rejection and pain that he contemplated suicide yet found redemption in the arms of a loving God. Witness how the Lord's mercy is strong enough to stop a habitual violator and equip him with the necessary tools to reach other juvenile delinquents. This is the story of Benjamin Wright's life and how God's power set him free.

Each of us on the earth are here for a reason. God calls upon each of us to fulfill our purpose before we move on to our final home. Many are confused about their purpose, and should pray and ask for God for a revelation. I also searched for certainly of purpose. Why was I here? I prayed and was given many subtle signs I ignored. When the signs became stronger, I listened which led me to write this book. God wants us to share our trials and tribulations to show how he is in the midst of everything.Although my life was satisfactory emotionally and financially, I longed for my Godly purpose in life. At the age of sixty-nine, I finally became aware of God's will and I surrendered to his will to write. I recognize there are so many people with greater stories to tell, but I think God chose me because I am a very average person, living an average life.Do you ever look at people and think, What a great life they have? You may even wish you were in their shoes, but don't. Behind closed doors, everyone struggles. No one leads a picture-perfect life, but God knows all struggles and He is there waiting for us to ask for His help.In my poetry, I share my struggles. Curl up and as you read witness my "behind closed doors" trials. In each, witness how God showed up as He will for you also. You may laugh, cry, or be shocked. I'm OK because God has already judged my situations and offered his forgiveness. Every sin wiped away, to God be the glory.

From the suburban sprawl of 1960s Bloomington, Minnesota, to a stereotypical family farm in western Illinois, to a mid-sized enclave of oil and rusted iron in Ohio, the life journey of Mike Pickett ambles through the last gasp of the Industrial Age and into a digitized world where we imagine ourselves to be different from the thousands of generations that preceded us. These moral-laced stories are full of beauty, joy, struggle, and determination, utilizing the backdrop of some rather unique moments: a chat with Neil Armstrong days after his moon landing, a 30-year feud with Cal Ripken, three hours of vodka lemonades with Arnold Palmer, Alex Trebek toasting his marriage and, a bout of thievery in the Clinton White House.Through them all, these elegant, ageless tales of transition celebrate family love and sacrifice, forgiveness, and redemption.

No child grows up too quickly. Children who regularly experience trauma are exposed to more than they are capable of processing. As a result, they often present a facade which falsely conveys that they are more secure and mature than they really are. The consequences of such assumptions are potentially harmful to their health, development, and well-being.Just Enough Light is much more than a story chronicling the impact of divorce on a child raised by a parent suffering from mental illness, incapable of providing the necessary material and emotional support for her children. It is a tribute to the triumphant power of belief and the will to emerge from the despair of drug addiction, violence, anxiety, and depression; and ultimately persevere. What makes this story so compelling is that it is presented from a unique perspective. As each experience unfolds from childhood through adolescence, it is presented through the mindset of the child's age at the time. Both gut-wrenching and touching, it reaffirms the resilient nature of the human spirit and the truth that change and redemption are always possible. Perhaps the most important message of this story is how it affirms the transformative power of human connection through intentional acts of grace.

Mountain Walk Versus Forrest Fenn was written to support a unique idea and to defend the legacy of a generous and noble friend. Forest Fenn devised a treasure hunt in which he hid a fortune in gold and jewelry in the Rocky Mountains. He peppered clues throughout his book, The Thrill of the Chase: A Memoir, as to its location and declared the finder could keep the treasure. The purpose was to get people outside, and to share the things and experiences that made his own life interesting and fulfilling. The treasure was discovered in June 2020, shortly before Forest Fenn and his wife of sixty years passed. A decision by Fenn and the finder to not disclose the site left many of the thousands who searched for his treasure dissatisfied-some caustically so. For them, the game was a hoax, a scam, and unfair. Legal suits were brought against the Fenn estate, the finder, and other tangentially involved individuals. Books and articles were written with no purpose other than destroying Fenn's legacy."Mountain Walk," a blog to help interpret the clues and keep treasure hunters out of trouble argued the only way to stop the nonsense was to find the hiding site using nothing but the clues given in Fenn's memoir, The Thrill of the Chase. The author takes the reader through that mental exercise with the caveat that at this point, only the finder really knows the site's location.
