  • av Epictetus
    176,-

A HANDBOOK FOR LIFE The Enchiridion, or Handbook of Epictetus, is a short manual of Stoic ethical advice which was compiled by Arrian, who was a 2nd-century disciple of the Greek philosopher Epictetus. Epictetus lived in ancient Greece from 55 to 135 AD. Born into slavery, he endured a permanent physical disability. While enslaved, he studied Stoic philosophy. After attaining his freedom, Epictetus remained a fervent believer of Stoic thought and spent his entire career teaching philosophy and advising a daily regimen of self-examination. He encouraged his students to acknowledge good and evil only in the things they had control over, and not in the circumstances that cannot be controlled by any human being. His pupil Arrian, collected his teacher's philosophical insights and advice and turned them into this popular guide of Stoic wisdom - an instruction manual for a tranquil life. The Enchiridion begins with the statement that "Of things, some depend upon ourselves, others do not depend upon ourselves."Thus, Epictetus makes a distinction between our own internal world and the external world beyond our control. Arrian focused his attention on Epictetus's work applying philosophy in daily life. The word "encheiridion" is an adjective meaning "in the hand" and when coupled with the word "book", means a handy book or hand-book. In the Discourses, Epictetus often speaks of principles which his pupils should have "ready to hand." Thus, the book is a manual to show the way to achieve mental freedom and happiness in all areas of life.

Dick Sutphen had two very distinct careers in his lifetime. He studied art and became an Art Director and eventually opened his own studio in Scottsdale, Arizona. His second career was in Self-Help and Metaphysics. When he developed an interest in a subject, he would spend hours researching and developing his thoughts. He was introduced to hypnosis and past-life regression from an artist he employed who convinced him to go to have a past-life regression. That first regression took him to a time in ancient Mexico and the experience was so profound, his interest in his Art Studio began to take a back seat to metaphysics. He decided to turn part of his studio into a seminar room and began the Hypnosis Center so he could experiment with different ways to conduct hypnosis and past-life regressions. His Wednesday night sessions were very popular. Many of his students requested private sessions, which gave him an opportunity to do in-depth research and write about his discoveries. He developed his own style of hypnosis session, which he termed, Spirit Contact Therapy.Dick Sutphen was an amazing artist, Hypnotherapist, lecturer and writer. He left behind hundreds of columns and articles he wrote over the years. Wanting to carry out his wishes, his wife, Roberta organized his most important articles into the years in which he wrote them. This is the first time they have been published in a book.Dick was a Master who came here to enlighten and challenge us to become our authentic selves. You will find some wondrous ideas within these pages and be amazed how his wisdom still holds today as it did when he wrote these over the past five decades.

  • av Euripides
    156,-

ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL AND ENDURING OF GREEK TRAGEDIESAlong with Sophocles and Aeschylus, Euripides is regarded as one of the three great Greek tragedians from classical antiquity. One of his most important surviving dramas is "e;Medea"e;, which tells the story of the wife of Jason of the Argonauts, who seeks revenge upon her unfaithful husband when he abandons her for another bride.Medea centers on the myth of Jason, leader of the Argonauts, who has won the dragon-guarded treasure of the Golden Fleece with the help of the sorceress Medea. Of divine descent, a niece of Circe and the granddaughter of the sun god Helios, she had the gift of prophecy. Now, having married Medea and fathered her two children, Jason abandons her for a more favorable match, never suspecting the terrible revenge she will take. This story is set in Corinth, sometime after Jason's quest for the Golden Fleece. Medea is raging against her husband's plans to marry Glauce, the daughter of Creon, King of Corinth. Jason tries to explain his plan to marry Glauce only to improve his status and afterwards intends to unify the two families with Medea as his mistress, but Medea is unconvinced and pursues her plan of murderous revenge. Euripides' masterly portrayal of Medea's motives which fiercely drive her pursuit of vengeance for her husband's insult and betrayal has held theater audiences spellbound for more than twenty centuries.
