'I don't know. It's always been like this, son. Your father knew. But we got to survive, didn't we? Can't fight the whole village!' she'd say...whenever Kalu asked her how sheand Udho coped with [the] insults. In the year 1952, Kalu escaped Banjhan Kalan in Punjab's Hoshiarpur forBedford in the British Midlands, hoping to find a life of dignity that he had beendenied because of his caste. He was in his late teens and had grown up believingin Sikhism's tenet of equality preached by Guru Nanak and Ravidas, a principlethe villagers never sincerely practised. They had maimed his father, accusing himof stealing a zamindar's ox; they had thrown father and son out of a Quit Indiarally; they had mercilessly thrashed young Kalu himself for daring to enter atemple. He had never been allowed to forget-even by his schoolmates-thathe was a Chamar, destined to skin dead cattle like his ancestors.England promised a new life of respect and opportunity. But Kalu's fellowexpatriates had brought caste along when they came to that country, and hewould be forced to adhere to its degrading rules just as he was in Banjhan.Determined not to bend-as he had refused to do back home-Kalu fights back, but his resoluteness in the struggle will put him and his family at serious risk. The Past Is Never Dead is not only the story of a rural Punjabi family's search fora better life, it is also a powerful depiction of the stranglehold of caste overSikh immigrants in Britain. But even as it exposes the horror and obstinacy ofcaste, the novel pays tribute to the courage and tenacity of the human spiritand its capacity for hope.

Protect me at all costs. That's the mission my father placed on Anton Markov-my new bodyguard. Shield me from a ruthless, faceless stalker. The menace hijacked my online presence, levied chilling threats my way, and promised to unleash a barrage of damage to me personally and professionally. There's one problem with Anton. It's simple. I despise him.He stole everything years ago-my heart, dreams, and dignity. With a four-line farewell note stuck to my kitchen table, he broke my heart and almost my spirit. But it seems Anton has his own collection of grievances over what happened in New York, and he's not willing to let them go.It's complicated. He hates me.As my stalker escalates his threats, Anton and I are thrust closer together. His smoldering good looks, irresistible charm, and unwavering dedication to my safety blur the line between lovers and enemies. He claims that he can't protect me if he falls in love with me. With the danger closing in, we're about to put that theory to the test.----Crowne Jewel is a standalone with a hot protector, wounded soldier, an ex you never thought you'd get over. The story includes non-binary besties, a past abortion that no one feels guilty about, and a hundred right ways to act with an independent woman. The danger to Lyric is real and manifests in stalking, ugly threats, and descriptions of violence that may take some readers out of the story.Oh, also role-play shenanigans, a guy who stands up for her when she's speaking, and two people who bring each other sandwiches in case they're hungry.

Although there are already in existence many books on anatomy and physiology for nurses, none with which I am acquainted has seemed to me to provide in concise form just the knowledge needed by the nurse in her profession. Most of them, moreover, separate the anatomy from the physiology and all treat the different systems of tissues separately, first the bones, then the muscles, and so on. These defects, as they seem to me, I have attempted to correct not only by weaving the physiology in with the anatomy, but by treating first the general structures found throughout the body and then describing the structure and function of each part in detail. Thus, the first chapter is devoted to a description of the general structure of all the tissues, a separate chapter being devoted, however, to the skin, itsappendages, and function, including the sense of touch. Then the head with its bones, muscles, and organs of special sense is described, while the brain is treated with the rest of the nervous system, thus forming the connecting link between the head and the body. In the same way the back, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities are taken up in turn and the bones, muscles, blood-vessels, nerves, and special organs of each, together with their functions, described.

Big obstacles in Springer's quest arise when he is pressed into service by the FBI or face the wrath of the U.S. Treasury. Springer slips the Feds, extricates Anson from Seven, and once again scams Red Cavanaugh in a set-up that has all the appearance of going badly, but that's our man, the glorious piano playing ex-Secret Service agent, Cole Springer"--

This memoir is based on handwritten letters, cards, and newspaper clippings sent between Carole and Bill Wagener from September 1968 to August 1969. The vernacular is accurate to that time, using words that are no longer politically correct. The letters, based on actual events, may have been compressed. Please note there was a time lapse between these letters due to a lag in the mail. Some names and identifying characteristics were changed to protect privacy, and some dialogue was recreated. The remainder of the book is based on Carole and Bill's memories to the best of their recollection over time. Because this is a war story, some chapters are very graphic and may not suit those with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other trauma-related disorders. In addition, the book contains some offensive language and sexual references. Finally, there are several military terms, and various German, French, and Vietnamese phrases mentioned in this book. These terms are defined in the glossary.

At what age may a child be given a full tub bath? Usually when ten days old; it should not be given before the cord has come off. How should the bath be given? It should not be given sooner than one hour after feeding. The room should be warm; if possible there should be an open fire. The head and face should first be washed and dried; then the body should be soaped and the infant placed in the tub with its body well supported by the hand of the nurse. The bath should be given quickly, and the body dried rapidly with a soft towel, but with very little rubbing. At what temperature should the bath be given? For the first few weeks at 100° F.; later, during early infancy, at 98° F.; after six months, at 95° F.; during the second year, from 85° to 90° F. With what should the bath be given? Soft sponges are useful for bathing the body, limbs and scalp. There should be a separate wash-cloth for the face and another for the buttocks. What are the objections to bath sponges? When used frequently, they become very dirty and are liable to cause infection of the eyes, mouth or genital organs. Under what circumstances should the daily tub bath be omitted? In the case of very feeble or delicate infants on account of the exposure and fatigue, and in all forms of acute illness except by direction of the physician. In eczema and many other forms of skin disease much harm is often done by bathing with soap and water, or even with water alone.
