DIMMANGALI is set in the early era of white settlement in South-East Queensland, between 1820 and 1842.It tells the story of Buruda, a proud aboriginal manngur of the Undanbi people, custodians of the lands around Caloundra, and his leadership at this time.To these people, the land was a spiritual entity that gave life to all - humans and animals and plants. The proponents of this philosophy could not help living each day in harmony with the natural rhythms of the earth. The Undanbi believed the white men to be makaron, spirits who had not taken the proper path of being reborn as children, and some of the surrounding peoples had even befriended a few of them. But as increasing numbers of makaron pillaged their forests and depleted their animal numbers, the makaron presence became more sinister. As women were raped, and thunder-sticks brought down more and more of their warrior dhan, the full calamity of white settlement on the Undanbi way of life could no longer be tolerated!Clarrie Diefenbach was a senior lecturer at Brisbane College of Advanced Education until his retirement in 1987. He has a Master of Education, the subject of his his book being "Student Teachers' Attitudes to Aboriginals". He had, for many years, been lecturing in Prejudice and Racism, and been appalled at some of the attitudes he had come across towards Aboriginals.

John Bradshaw has pushed aside his abusive childhood to build a global empire. A year after marrying his beloved Elizabeth, a car accident sees her plunged into the dark cloud of coma. Johns'' devotion is unwavering, and they are gifted a miracle as Elizabeth finally wakes and they rebuild their bond of love. A sinister presence from John''s childhood, is unrelenting in his efforts to re-enter John''s life. Shane Olsen is masked in a veil of influence, but in truth he is a monster as Sydney is overshadowed by a growing number of brutal murders involving street kids. An established Cyber hub funded by John assists law enforcement to decode the dark web, revealing the horror of international child abuse and murder. The danger to John''s family becomes more than empty threats as evil targets the very heart of his world. The perverted depth of a criminal empire is uncovered, but not soon enough, as a plan for revenge is put into action.  The author Judith Dun has crafted a novel of suspense and horror. The plot is far from predictable, fast paced and full of complex characters who keep the reader completely off balance.

  • - The Story of the Transported Cato Street Conspirators
    av Kieran Hannon
    306,-

The Cato Street Conspiracy of 23 February 1820 was an attempt by a group of radicals to assassinate the British Cabinet while they dined at the house of Lord Harrowby in Grosvenor Square, Mayfair, London. This act aimed to precipitate a revolution, depose the King, change Britain into a people''s republic, and liberate Ireland. The conspiracy failed - but not without loss of life. Much has been written about this event, typically ending with the gruesome hanging and beheading of five plotters outside Newgate Prison on 1 May 1820, or shortly thereafter. More than these men however, were convicted of high treason for the part they played. Another five had their sentences changed to transportation for life, and one to six-months'' imprisonment. To-date the story of the five transported conspirators has for the most part remained untold. In this book, Kieran Hannon moves the Cato Street Conspiracy beyond May 1820, by exploring the fates of the transported conspirators: Richard Bradburn, Charles Cooper, John Harrison, John Shaw Strange and James Wilson. It is the first attempt to extend the existing Cato Street Conspiracy narrative, and our understanding of this historically significant event.
