Words once buried deep inside her heart find their voice and are no longer afraid to let the world hear.

The heavy weight of living, with multiple mental illnesses, physical disabilities, causing debilitating chronic pain; and, is navigating, the very nearly crippling, complex post traumatic stress disorder. Lastly, to add, to her emotional baggage; Nadia, has spent more than half of her life, battling substance abuse addiction. Hers, is a story that shows, that even with everything stacked against you; you can still triumph. She grew tired of drowning in darkness, a prisoner of her own personal hell, haunted by her experience as a literal hostage... her rage, and, grief... eventually, becoming... her resilience, and, strength. Her will to live, and, deepest hopes; had her, crawling out of the dark... into the light. Now, finally, refusing to let anyone else own her flesh; other than herself, ever again. Her unbelievably harrowing journey, in which, she broke the silence; and, found her voice; at risk to her own life. Still, she is bravely speaking out, on issues that nobody wants to discuss, or, face. Well, face them, you will... if you read this collection. You will meet the skeletons in her many closets... the ghosts of those she has lost. And, yet... she will never regret, the desperate run, for her life. She, doesn't just 'survive,' today; she flourishes. Today, she is radiant; facing every new day with grace, and, hope. Forever, believing, that everything happens for a reason; even, pain. Please, if these words, awaken something inside you; go, and, speak your truth.

"These poems were written during a time where my family had suffered the greatest loss of my entire 46 years. My closest cousin had been murdered during a domestic dispute. During my grief I was faced with a ton of unresolved acute childhood trauma, horrific flashbacks, and learning to accept and deal with all of it as it presented itself to me. I had also ended a 10- and 1/2-year relationship 2 mos. before my cousin's death, as well as started a new relationship which proved to only add new trauma to all the previous traumas. While I will forever grieve for my cousin, I was able to resolve many conflicts within my emotional sphere and learned many life lessons in just a little over a year and a half. Most of it coming out in my writing as those writings healed a great deal of the fracturing in my mind, giving me further purpose to carry on with my previous work, and to push forward solving some of the mysteries of my childhood, struggles with self-worth, and relationship endings that led me to these writings.Thank you for joining me on this journey in my mind!"

The sometimes unconventional, yet beautiful poetry in this book is a mirror to the way we love and a window into how relationships can be born and broken so quickly. But it is also a reminder to keep going, even when things seem completely hopeless. Because there is so much love out there just waiting for someone like you to find it.

To many, poetry is, first and foremost, an expression of that which you cannot say aloud. Perhaps a poem reveals the pain you feel during a particularly difficult time. Maybe it's a passing fancy, a whimsical thought you had while walking through a park. It could be an image that's been stuck in your head for weeks on end, refusing to go away. Whatever the source, it has meaning and beauty. It can take the shape of anything or anyone or transport you anywhere. Note To Self is a small anthology of just those sorts of thoughts.

"3/4/2020I am grateful for the consistency of friends in my life. I am grateful to those beautiful individuals who I call family. I am grateful for learning to love myself. Lastly, I'm grateful for my desires. I have been tenaciously trying to better myself. Beating myself up and just going through the highs and lows to arrive at the point where I am. It might be the hardest thing to accept, that I am worthy of ushering in what I want to see. That a good outcome could come from all my tears, years, and fears. Ultimately, I'm fighting with the feeling that the way I am is somehow wrong and can't work in this world. I don't know how else to say it. What has the world come to that people feel they can't be accepted? Their ideas aren't worthy and if brought into the light people would see them as ugly? Because we're around that. We judge others. We can't reconcile our differences or appreciate what makes another unique. I am too much in some ways and not enough in others. I know I can do better. I absolutely want to. That comes through learning. Who will teach us to accept ourselves and then move forward in a powerful way? Not this disempowered, I'm ugly, bad, "not good enough as I am" way. I would love to do that!"
