At the Munich Conference of 1938, Chamberlain presented Hitler with an agreement that Germany and Great Britain promised to work together to solve all disputes in Central and Eastern Europe peacefully. When Chamberlain asked Hitler to sign it, Hitler did so enthusiastically. But Hitler had no intention of living up to the agreement and so missed a golden opportunity to forge a working alliance between Great Britain and Germany. When Chamberlain returned to London, he was met by reporters at the airport. It was this proposal that he waved above his head and proclaimed it represented "peace for our times." But little did he know that Hitler had no intention of taking the proposal serious and was already making plans to tear up the Munich Agreement and occupy the rest of Czechoslovakia. But what would have happened if Hitler had been shrewd enough to take Chamberlain up on the opportunity he presented to him? This is the story of what might have happened if Hitler kept his word to Chamberlain and used Chamberlain to achieve his goals of German domination of Central and Eastern Europe with going to war with the West. With British support Hitler begins manufacturing one crisis after another in Eastern Europe and then asks for Chamberlain's support to settle the disputes peacefully. Each time Chamberlain agrees and unwittingly helps Hitler expand Germany's power throughout Eastern Europe. One country after another joins the Axis Alliance until by 1943 most of Europe is fascist, including France and Britain. When Hitler finally unleashes a war against the Soviet Union in 1943 he has the backing of all Europe including the British and French Empires with their limitless resources. The large format Peace for Our Time is a single volume edition for both previous books subtitled The Anglo-German Cooperation and Operation Crusade.

They are the unexpected voices, celebrating the simple power of speech to spread ideas and hold communities, and indeed cultures, together. Simon Gibson, one of Europe's leading speech writers founded the day in 2015 at the Athens Democracy Forum. In this book is a sample of quotations from speeches, made in many nations at WSD 2022. It's 1988 and thinks could be looking up for The Smiling Reptiles. The North of England Battle of the Bands competition could be just the break needed for: Frontman Stevo, a drug-fuelled egomaniac, meglomaniac sex maniac. Vinny, a pot smoking guitarist with a rare talent...for plagiarism. Scat, a timid ex-Punk bassist, ill at ease with his new-found funk tendancies. Narcissistic pretentious knob-twiddling synth player Lexxo, and drummer/plumber Raggerty, a no-nonsense skin pounder with more than a passing fondness for the amber nectar. On the other hand, the contest could turn out to be just another dead-end smalltown gig, but not for the shadowy figure trailing their every move; for him it's a matter of life and death...

Milne, published in 1926. Milne wrote the episodic stories of Winnie-the-Pooh and its sequel, The House at Pooh Corner (1928), for his young son, Christopher Robin, whose toy animals were the basis for many of the characters and whose name was used for the young boy who appears in the tales as the benign master of the animals. The main character, Winnie-the-Pooh (sometimes called simply Pooh or Edward Bear), is a good-natured, yellow-furred, honey-loving bear who lives in the Forest surrounding the Hundred Acre Wood (modeled after Ashdown Forest in East Sussex, England). His companions are Eeyore, a gloomy gray donkey; Piglet, a timid pig; Owl, a pontificating bird; the meddlesome Rabbit; and Kanga, an energetic kangaroo whose inquisitive baby, Roo, lives in her pouch.Pooh, a self-described "Bear of Very Little Brain," gets himself into all kinds of sticky situations, and the book's 10 chapters recount his various adventures. In the first chapter, Pooh hears bees in the treetop and believes they must be making honey. After unsuccessfully attempting to climb the tree, he uses a balloon to pretend he is a cloud, but the bees are suspicious. Deciding they are the wrong sort of bees, Pooh realizes he is unable to get down, and he enlists the help of Christopher Robin, who pops the balloon with a gun. In a later adventure, Pooh visits Rabbit and, after eating too much, gets stuck in Rabbit's doorway. For the next week, Pooh fasts while Christopher Robin keeps him company. Finally he is slim enough for the others to pull him free. Pooh's kindness is also evident, notably when he finds Eeyore's missing tail in chapter four. Later in the book Pooh demonstrates his bravery when he and Christopher Robin set off in an upturned umbrella to rescue Piglet. (Britannica 2018)

Britain allied with Russia and France during the First World War but the October Revolution in 1917, the Russian Civil War and the formation of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in 1922 led to a decline in diplomatic relations. Although the Soviet Union was allowed an embassy in London in 1924, the British Embassy in Moscow did not open until 1929. The economic depression during the 1930s was accompanied with widespread political disagreements. Left-wing opposition to right-wing policies led to demonstrations, strikes and in some cases violence. The more conservative political parties viewed the Communist Party as a threat. Although some countries made membership of a communist party illegal, the British conservative government instructed its Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) to collect information about its membership and activities and to identify and potentially defuse threats. Adolf Hitler's annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland in 1938 led Joseph Stalin to offer to move Soviet military forces to the German border to support France and Britain. As it would entail movement through Poland, the offer was refused. Fearing a Russian attack, Hitler ordered Joachim Ribbentrop, his Foreign Secretary, to meet Vyacheslav Molotov, the Soviet Foreign Secretary, and negotiate a ten-year peace deal with the Soviet Union. It included a secret agreement to divide Eastern Europe between them. Having invaded Norway, the Low Countries and France in June 1940, the German armed forces failed to invade Britain. Winston Churchill ordered the creation of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), a subversive intelligence organisation with a mission 'to set Europe ablaze by sabotage.' In June 1941 Hitler reneged on his agreement with the Soviet Union and ordered Operation Barbarossa, the Axis invasion of Russia. This prompted urgent meetings between Britain and the Soviet Union which led to a top-secret agreement between the two countries and their intelligence services having to collaborate for the first time. Bernard O'Connor's 'The decline of Anglo-Soviet relations during the Second World War' is a documentary history which uses previously classified files in the British National Archives and other sources to investigate the collaboration between the British Foreign Office, the SIS and the SOE with the Soviet intelligence service, the People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (NKVD).

Champion is a one-act play about Anthony Campione Jr. who was the first-born grandchild on both sides of Italian-American families. Loved and cherished by his entire family, especially his parents Anthony Sr. and Carol, no one ever questioned his darker skin but it was often 'logically' explained away. In his early thirties, after years of personal struggle and living as a "dark-Italian", Anthony unearths the truth about where he comes from and takes a drive to complete his journey of self-discovery. Champion is a compelling true story about courage, the persistence to find truth and unconditional love. Based on the real-life story of David Paladino as heard on NPR's "This American Life" with Ira Glass & Cris Beam.
